    The Opportunity:

    Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Finance Superintendent at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, day shift schedule.

    Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

    Location

    Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

    Summary

    Reporting to the Finance Manager, BCBU, to continuously improve the team performance in providing required levels of Accounting and Reporting specialist support and service such that the BCBU accurately meets its financial and statutory obligations. The effective support of the financial reporting and accounting systems within the role accountability leads to accurate and timely achievement of results that are used in the interest of both the people at the BCBU and the company. Supports the company values and collaboration with stakeholders to achieve the objectives that ultimately build trust through consistency of support and service delivery.

    Responsibilities

    Safety, Health and Environment:

  • Safety and health of all employees your area and execution of the area safety plan.
  • Develop Safety and Health Plan for self and department including standards.
  • Review and coach subordinates (staff and hourly) in their safety accountabilities, as applicable. Including appropriate recognition and discipline consistent with company policies.
  • Provide support to investigate significant incidents (as requested).
  • Provide subordinates (staff and hourly) with a thorough knowledge of applicable government and company safety regulations.
  • Planning and Advice

  • Provide input, with the assistance of colleagues, to the Finance Manager such that there is commitment to the Finance Manager's plan and shared intention to achieve the plan.
  • Interfacing with other functions at Hudbay and all other interested parties and stakeholders to maintain collaboration in achieving the desired outcomes.
  • Putting in place processes to identify and mitigate risk.
  • The role manages the level of service in support of operations which include, among others: the financial accounting function including AP, payroll, revenues, cost of sales, materials and supplies inventory, tax and payroll.
  • Specialist support to Business Unit departments/functions:

  • Execute your portion of the Finance Manager plan for up to a 12-month period. Monitor your portion of execution plan progress and report to the Finance Manager at scheduled review times. Formulate actions to correct gaps. Control costs to budget levels for the area.
  • Plans and assigns work to achieve the service level of availability and reliability for Reporting services and specialist support to the Business Unit such that we preserve our good standing in the marketplace.
  • Implements system/process changes, once approved by the Finance Manager to meet compliance with IFRS changes such that the changes are fully integrated with other aspects of the accounting system.
  • Month -end close:

  • Manages the operating month-end close process such that cost variances are complete, accurate, adequately explained, investigated, and corrected within a 12-month window.
  • Quarterly Reporting Package –review of the reporting package to corporate.
  • Ensure SOx compliance and documentation.
  • Prepares reporting packages to corporate.
  • Cost Management

  • Establish measures to remain within allocated costs.
  • Allocate and approve overtime, where applicable.
  • Review and act to reduce waste in the area processes.
  • Maintain a rationalized level of office equipment.
  • People

  • Compliance with the requirements of each of the HR systems such that team members are fully developed in role.
  • Establish an effective team and talent pool with a focus on increasing capacity to solve finance problems/opportunities.
  • Compliance

  • Have in place actions that will provide integrity, timely and relevant information flow, openness and transparency, effective risk management, and sound controls;
  • Take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislation, regulations, policies, work standards, and governance.
  • Maintains internal control and SOx compliance. Raises any issues timely.
  • Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce or Business Administration with a concentration in Finance or Accounting,
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA or CA) is required,
  • Minimum of five to ten years of experience in accounting/finance business function,
  • Experience in a complex accounting environment in a medium to large public corporation,
  • Strong computer software aptitude and experience working with various types of software,
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and have access to personal transportation.
  • Required Skills

  • Excellent analytical mind, inquisitive approach to solving problems, understands the interrelationship with financial reporting, cost accounting and forecasting,
  • Demonstrates skilled knowledge about all functions that form a mining business and in particular accounting for a metal business,
  • Demonstrated capability to manage a team of subordinates and value delegating work to team members in achieving effectiveness and efficiency in workforce management processes and objectives,
  • Can build an effective team of subordinates who are effective in role while fostering a climate of safety and continuous improvement,
  • Demonstrates "Face to Face" communications as the preferred method of information transfer coupled with the ability to understand and influence the design requirements of requests from the various operating and support units in the business unit,
  • Has acquired the necessary knowledge to read and interpret reports, conduct analysis, identify, and anticipate problem areas with demonstrated ability to develop corrective actions,
  • Demonstrated skill to plan, establish targets/standards, schedule resources, and assign work in such a way that team members can make effective use of materials, equipment, and tools to achieve a pre-defined schedule,
  • Demonstrated enough financial knowledge to develop and justify resources through the budget process and subsequently manage the allocated budget,
  • Skilled knowledge in the use of required technology systems: Excel and Ellipse.
  • Working Conditions

  • Work involves a set work schedule on-site at Copper Mountain Mine, Monday to Friday,
  • Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
  • Frequent exposure to sitting at a computer doing work online,
  • Work includes working near others with a high degree of social interaction,
  • Role may operate in a potentially stressful environment caused by constant requests from several people causing uncertainty and ambiguity,
  • Exposure to dust and temperature fluctuations,
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in sounds, noise, vibration levels,
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
  • Rate of Pay

    $135K - $165K / annum.
