About Island Gold District:
Alamos Gold's Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Role Overview/Purpose
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Reliability Superintendent provides technical and strategic leadership for asset reliability across the gold processing plant, open pit mobile fleet, and underground mine equipment. This role ensures maximum equipment availability, optimized lifecycle cost, and safe, stable operations by driving reliability engineering, predictive maintenance, defect elimination, and effective use of SAP as the site's CMMS/EAM system.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the site-wide Reliability Strategy for plant and mobile equipment.
- Lead and mentor a team of reliability engineers, condition monitoring specialists, and reliability analysts.
- Embed a culture of defect elimination, continuous improvement, and precision maintenance.
Asset Management & Reliability Governance
- Own the site's reliability framework aligned with ISO 55001 and industry best practices.
- Optimize equipment strategies, PMs, BOMs, and task lists within SAP.
- Maintain and improve SAP-based equipment criticality ranking, work history quality, and failure coding.
- Establish and monitor reliability KPIs (Availability, MTBF, MTTR, OEE, PM/PdM compliance, planned work %, backlog health).
Condition Monitoring & Predictive Maintenance
- Oversee predictive technologies for both fixed and mobile assets, including:
- Vibration analysis for rotating equipment (pumps, fans, agitators, mills).
- Thermography, ultrasound, oil analysis, and motor current analysis.
- Mobile fleet condition monitoring: onboard telemetry, payload/strain data, fluid analysis, component life tracking.
- Implement dashboards and triggers to proactively address emerging issues.
Reliability Engineering
- Facilitate RCM, FMEA, and PM Optimization initiatives for plant and mobile equipment.
- Lead structured Root Cause Analyses (RCA) using 5-Why, fishbone, or Apollo methods.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions and ensure SAP task lists reflect updated strategies.
- Improve precision maintenance practices (alignment, balancing, torquing, lubrication excellence).
Planning, Scheduling & Shutdown Support
- Convert reliability insights into planned maintenance work through SAP.
- Collaborate with Planning & Scheduling to ensure accurate job plans, resource requirements, and priority settings.
- Support major shutdowns (e.g., mill relines, crusher rebuilds, refinery outages) with scopes, quality standards, and risk controls.
Data & Analytics
- Build and maintain reliability dashboards (bad actors, downtime events, top failure modes, cost drivers).
- Ensure CMMS data integrity: notifications, work orders, coding, and history accuracy.
- Apply reliability tools such as Weibull analysis, lifecycle costing, and reliability modeling.
Safety, Compliance & ESG
- Promote and maintain a culture of Zero Harm.
- Integrate reliability processes to reduce high-risk maintenance activities and improve energy isolation effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario OHSA and Mining Regulation 854.
- Support ESG initiatives via efficiency improvements, water/energy optimization, and waste reduction.
Vendor, OEM & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with OEMs, condition monitoring partners, rebuild shops, and service providers.
- Ensure vendor recommendations and component inspection findings are reflected in SAP strategies.
- Collaborate with Operations, Mine Engineering, Metallurgy, and Supply Chain to align reliability priorities with production needs.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Mining Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 8–12+ years of maintenance & reliability experience in mining or mineral processing.
- 3–5+ years in a leadership or superintendent-level reliability role.
- Strong experience with SAP PM (required).
Certifications (Preferred)
- CMRP / CMRT (SMRP)
- CRE (ASQ)
- PMP
- Vibration/Oil Analysis Levels I–III
