The Applied Behaviour Analysis Advisor provides support and training in the use of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) strategies for students with complex needs in elementary and secondary schools. They act as part of the educational team and liaise with community agencies, on behalf of the student, school and their family. This Applied Behaviour Analysis Advisor is assigned to a multi-disciplinary Student Services team that works within the elementary and secondary panels.
Qualifications:
- Community College Diploma and graduate certificate in Autism or University Degree in a social science discipline or equivalent combination of a University Degree and related work experience;
- Three to five years relevant work experience working with children having Autism Spectrum Disorder, preferably in an education setting;
- Specialized training in Applied Behaviour Principles from a recognized organization;
- Computer knowledge and capacity to work with several administrative software programs;
- Training and demonstrated experience with Practical Functional Assessment and Skill Based Treatment;
- Thorough working knowledge of and experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other neurodiverse needs, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and other behavior change programs;
- Ability to follow through with specific training and support in translating strategies from behavioural interventions to ABA school based strategies;
- Knowledge of community resources for children with ASD and their families and of the elementary and secondary education system in Ontario;
- Ability to support the delivery of the ABA Skills Development Program (formerly after school program) virtually or in person;
- Experience providing and/or facilitating staff and student learning and training;
- Experience facilitating group learning in elementary and secondary using a Behaviour Skills Training (BST) model (e.g., PEERs, Children's Friendship Training, Circles, etc.) is an asset.
- Excellent consultation, coordination, meeting facilitation and problemsolving skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Effective verbal and written skills;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills;
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle in order to travel and provide service throughout the district.
