Description

Reporting to the Utilities Foreman and working under the direction of senior team members, you will learn through on-the-job training how to do all work relating to the delivery of water and wastewater services to the Innisfail community in a safe and effective manner and following all approved policies and procedures.

As your competency develops, you will take on increasing responsibilities with the goal of developing into a Utilities Operator for the Town.


Your Key Responsibilities Include the Following:

  • Provide excellent customer service in response to requests and perform service calls as required
  • Follow all Town health, safety and operations policies and procedures
  • Respond to SCADA system alarms during working hours and when on call as directed
  • Learn all aspects of the role of Utilities Operator, including how to:
  • Install, operate, inspect, maintain, and repair all components of water distribution system and wastewater collection system
  • Operate, inspect, and maintain water reservoirs and pump stations
  • Perform checks on lift stations including operating, inspections, maintenance and repair
  • Conduct water quality tests following Alberta Environment Codes of Practice
  • Take daily readings and record results for all reservoir functions and conditions
  • Install, remove, read, trouble shoot and investigate water meters
  • Install, operate, inspect, maintain and repair all aspects of the wastewater collection system
  • Conduct camera inspections and assist with flow monitoring readings
  • Operate equipment and vehicles and ensure all are kept clean and in good state of repair

This position includes on-call rotations and some overtime, including evenings and weekends

  • Minimum 1 year work experience with municipal water and wastewater systems or equivalent
  • High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
  • Valid Class 5 Operator's license and willing to obtain Class 3 with Air Endorsement within 6 months of hire date
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain Operators Certification as required by Alberta Environment, specifically:


  • Water Distribution Level

  • Wastewater Collection Level
  • Solid communication skills, ability to work with others in a team environment, good computer skills, mechanical aptitude and ability to lift heavy equipment and climb into confined spaces
