The role

CBC has an amazing opportunity for an energetic and creative Associate Producer to join our team in Kitchener, ON.


_The Morning Edition, _operating the mixing board and appearing daily on the air as part of the morning show team, all under the supervision of a producer.


You will understand the diverse and changing population in this part of southwestern Ontario and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our editorial content.

There is an increasing emphasis in imagining and creating video content for online audiences. Your visual shooting and editing skills will be an asset as this part of our local storytelling grows.

Key tasks and responsibilities- Engineer and direct the audio program
- _The Morning Edition_ in the studio or remote location by executing technical as well as editorial functions, often requiring quick decisions and action.
  • Conceive, focus and deliver stories, interviews, radio scripts and digital content, and help in the development of regular features both onair and online.
  • Present on air as needed for the role.
  • Contribute ideas, stories and treatments for radio and digital environments with journalistic integrity and audience interest.
  • Take initiative, with the ability to be productive both in individual and team settings.
  • Troubleshoot problems technical and editorial when you encounter them.
  • Organize and manage your time to help you perform a number of functions efficiently and quickly.
  • Understand and implement the CBC's goals and priorities for community, audience, inclusion and diversity.
  • Be able to work flexible hours and overtime, although generally the shift is 5:00 a.m to 12:15 p.m.
  • Essentially, engineer the show for three hours, and then participate in additional necessary aspects of the editorial and technical production for the next edition.

Qualifications:


  • University or College degree and three years of practical and relevant experience.
  • Possess a strong aptitude in live and recorded audio broadcast mixing and engineering, including the ability to troubleshoot radio & audio transmissions.
  • Ability to make quick decisions in a live radio environment as needed.
  • Understand best practices to implement the CBC's journalistic policy in story creation and publication / broadcast.
  • Solid knowledge / understanding of diverse communities across southwestern Ontario.
  • Live in the CBC Kitchener-Waterloo area, to be part of the community we cover.
  • Valid driver's license.
