Job Purpose:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interpret basic CAD models and drawings to develop new CMM programs for existing production and prelaunch parts.
- As required, perform basic CMM maintenance, probe calibrations, and troubleshooting activities.
- Create and maintain operator work instructions for the use of various pieces of inspection equipment.
- Assist production with first piece and inprocess inspection of production parts for dimensional accuracy and suspend activities if quality issues should arise.
- Assist Quality, Engineering & Production in solving product quality problems; determine deviations from specification and report findings.
- Audit incoming and outgoing production batches for compliance to specifications and approve release of product to production.
- Generate first article dimensional layouts using both manual (height gauge, micrometer, indicator, optical comparator) and automatic inspection equipment (CMM, Analytical Gear Checker, Form Tracer, Roundness Tester, Shaft Scope).
- As required, perform gauge capabilities studies and other statistical analysis.
- Ensure inspection equipment, fixtures, tooling are calibrated, records maintained and initiate repair procedures when corrections are required.
- Provide support and assistance to Quality Engineering with the development of prototype/prelaunch programs
- Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years' experience and practical knowledge in metrology
- Minimum 2 years' of practical experience operating and programming CMM machines
- Proficient with Mitutoyo CMM software and equipment
- Fully competent in the use of tools and gauges to inspected machined parts and components
- Proficient in blueprint reading and interpretation including GD&T and other technical specifications
- Familiar with Microsoft Office programs (Excel)
- Gear knowledge and/or experience is preferred
