    Unit Summary

    St. Peter's RestorativeCare serves the rehabilitation needs of adults with a multiple medical and/orfunctionally complex condition(s) which may include stroke or orthopaedicconditions such as arthritis or fracture, or deconditioning. The patient has clearlydefined goals that can realistically be attained within an average 45-60 daylength of stay, and is expected to benefit from interventions provided by aninterprofessional team which are directed toward discharge home by helpingpatients reach their maximum level of functioning, independence and comfort.Typical patient goals may include enhancing ability to manage activities ofdaily living (ADL), mobility, wheelchair seating, continence, communication andadaptation to an altered level of functioning.

    Position Summary

    The Occupational therapist assistant/physiotherapist assistant (OTA/PTA) functions as part of the Restorative Care interprofessional team. The OTA/PTA assumes responsibility and accountability for the specific tasks that are assigned by the Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.

    Schedule Work Hours Monday-Friday, days. This position is temporary until September 2024. Qualifications
  • Graduate of post-secondary school/accredited college for Occupational Therapy Assistants and Physiotherapy Assistants (must have dual certification)
  • Credentials with education obtained post 2011, must have received education for OT/PT assistant from an accredited program
  • One years experience preferred
  • Technical wheelchair skills preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to work in a chronic care hospital setting with an older adult patient population
  • Current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology related to adults
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including documenting in the electronic health record
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interprofessional team
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including the use of optimal body mechanics during lifts, transfers and bedside treatment
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to adapt communication to needs of the clinical population.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize assigned tasks, and requests from multiple therapists.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and independently able to manage own time and complete assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with patients individually or as a group
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Willingness to supervise, instruct and evaluate OTA/PTA students
