Vancouver Yard Manager

Summary


In this position, the Vancouver Yard Manager will be responsible for loading and unloading incoming and outgoing containers, keeping our yard organized, ensuring all containers are clean and in good repair, operating and maintaining forklifts, maintaining the delivery trucks, working with drivers and subcontractors and helping in other areas of the business as needed.

The Vancouver Yard Manager plays a critical role in keeping our Vancouver Branch organized and efficient.

Responsibilities and Duties

_Container Handling _:


  • Load all outgoing containers onto deck trucks, highway trailers, or chassis
  • Unload all incoming containers off deck trucks, highway trailers, or chassis
  • Ensure appropriate empty and loaded containers are ready for upcoming deliveries
  • Keep containers organized in storage yard as per master site plan
  • Stage units for customers to load and unload in our yard

_Container Maintenance & Repairs_:


  • Ensure containers are clean and ready for delivery (pressurewashing, sweeping, etc.)
  • Minor repairs to damaged containers

_Yard & Shop Maintenance_

  • Keep company storage yards tidy, free of garbage, weeds, pests, & well organized
  • Ensure yard frontage and signs look good and represent our company well
  • Ensure that yard gates and fencing remain intact and in good working order
  • Keep company tools and inventory organized and tidy in shop

_Equipment Maintenance_

  • Maintain all hand tools and yard equipment to good working standards
  • Maintain forklifts and ensure they continually meet all safety standards
  • Ensure forklifts receive professional maintenance when required
  • Keep all forklift records and checklists up to date on ongoing basis

_Deliveries_

  • Document the delivery of storage units to clients in a timely manner
  • Arrange subcontracted deliveries for other companies if required
  • Conduct delivery site surveys in advance of difficult deliveries

_Delivery Truck Maintenance_

  • Coordinate with Driver(s) to maintain inspection forms and report maintenance issues
  • Maintain truck to ensure it continually meets all safety standards
  • Keep all truck records and checklists up to date on ongoing basis
  • Keep all driver records and checklists up to date on ongoing basis

Training and support will be provided to the Vancouver Yard Manager as necessary.
