    Legal Assistant

This is the job for you We are currently looking for a Legal Assistant for a government institution.

    What is in it for you:


    • Hourly salary of $35.00 to $40.00, based on experience.
    • 2-month contract with a maximum extension term of 2 months.
    • Full-time position: 36.25 hours per week.

    Schedule:
    from 8:15 am to 4:30 pm.

    Responsibilities:


    • Organize physical files and open/close files on electronic filing system Prolaw.
    • Capture meeting notes live.
    • Manage calendars, schedule appointments, and update diaries extensively.
    • Document and process budgetary/claim expenses.
    • Type, edit, and proofread judgments, including research and verification of case and statute citations, ensuring accuracy of the finished product prior to filing.
    • Research and prepare correspondence and memoranda of a highly complex and confidential nature.
    • Prepare material for court hearings.
    • Handle sensitive and confidential information.
    • Establish and maintain filing systems.
    • Handle incoming telephone inquiries and mail.
    • Coordinate travel arrangements, often of complex nature.
    • Coordinate meetings and conferences, including organizing and assembling all required documents.
    • Perform other related administrative tasks as requested.
    What you will need to succeed:



    • 3 years of experience or a 2-year Diploma with 1 year of experience.
    • 1 year of experience with paper and electronic filing systems (Prolaw or similar).
    • 2 years of fast/strong typing skills to take real-time notes.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Excellent problem identification and problem resolution skills.
    • 1 year of experience with review/editing/track changes.
    • 1 year of legal research experience (Carswell or Westlaw).
    • Ability to look up various instructions, statutes, acts, and procedures.
    • Ability to lift and handle boxes for file preparation.
