Toronto Wagner Green YMCA Centre is a part of YMCA Employment and Community Programs which provide a variety of employment and counselling programs to youth ages 14-24 throughout the GTA.

It provides a variety of supports to homeless and street-involved youth in the Queen Street West area. Services include employment, housing, substance use, harm reduction, mental health and other related supports. The Wagner Green YMCA is 2SLGBTQIA+ positive space where all sexual orientations and gender diversity are welcome and celebrated. These services and supports are provided directly by the YMCA of Greater Toronto and community partners.

The Wagner Green YMCA Youth Pre-Employment Program is a specialized program for homeless and at-risk youth.

This program includes life skills coaching, job search supports, action plan creation, one to one employment supports with follow up supports.

The Case Manager creates an independence plan with youth ages 16-24 to ensure both short
- and long-term goals are met. The Case Manager provides and prepares youth for employment through one to one employment counselling, referral to community resources and consultation with employers to secure employment opportunities, as well as provide continuous follow up to ensure successful outcomes. The Case Manager works with, and is part of program delivery, within a fast-paced centre offering multiple program opportunities for youth.


In this role, you will:


  • Assist youth in identifying, planning, and achieving both shortterm and longterm goals related to employment, education, and training programs.
  • Conduct youth case management, including needs and risk assessment, contracting, implementation, and followup as it pertains to employment/vocational goals and other needs. Identify and assess the need for job coaching among youth.
  • Develop strategies and timelines with youth for achieving goals, while problemsolving obstacles or challenges that arise.
  • Provide oneonone coaching and motivation; counsel members on proper résumé and job search techniques; assist members in using computers and other tools for information searches; assist in the development of appropriate work habits, behaviors, and attitudes for the workplace.
  • Assist youth in developing interpersonal, social, and life skills through one on one coaching, as well as through developing and facilitating handson life skills programs.
  • Connect with other services and resources as required, broker services where relevant; seek to create and/or maintain partnerships with relevant service agencies.
  • Provide advocacy support to youth facing social barriers, e.g., mental health issues.
  • Prepare case management and case note documentation, and handle confidential data; ensure quality audit measures are met in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Advocate on behalf of the youth to community employers, services, and programs that will advance their employment, educational, and personal goals, and provide coordinated services. Consult with team members and community partners to identify employment opportunities and monitor progress in the work environment. Participate in outreach events/activities through collaboration and relationship development with community partners.
  • Ensure selfmanagement of program targets related to preemployment program delivery expectations; complete and maintain youth files as per YMCA quality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You bring:


  • Post-Secondary degree/Diploma in Careers Planning, Employment Counselling, Social/Community Work, Social Services, Human Resources, related field or equivalent experience
  • Two years counselling, file management, group facilitation experience, job coaching an asset.
  • Knowledge of issues that prevent young people from being employed, and an ability to work with youth in a respectful and nonjudgment and consistent manner
  • Knowledge of the philosophy of Harm Reduction, substance use, or mental health and/or concurrent concerns or equivalent experience
  • An ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with employers/business, community partners, and colleagues for the purpose of coordinating case management
  • Excellent presentation and written communication skills
  • Able to provide excellent service delivery
  • Knowledge of community resources, familiarity with the labour market as well as apprenticeship and training opportunities
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excel
