Responsibilities:


  • Develop, plan, implement, and monitor water quality and source control programs such as cross connection control, water and effluent sampling, and water quality control and assurance
  • Conduct field inspections, respond to water quality events, and monitor drinking water parameters
  • Liaise and coordinate with regulating and governing bodies on investigations and enforcement involving water and sewer related regulations
  • Prepare, review, and maintain a variety of materials including technical studies, records, policies and reports involving water and sewer infrastructure testing and sampling
  • Assist in preparing the Annual Water Quality Report and Bi-Annual Liquid Waste Management Plan
  • Respond to enquiries/complaints, and provide information and technical guidance on related regulations, acts, bylaws, standards, policies, procedures and programs
  • Perform related work as required

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology or a related field, plus considerable related experience preferably in a Municipal setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Thorough knowledge of principles, practices and techniques related to potable water and wastewater treatment and analysis, applicable regulations, sampling, and inspection techniques
  • Considerable knowledge of regulations, acts, bylaws, standards, policies, procedures in coordinating water quality and source control programs
  • Considerable knowledge of implementing and monitoring water quality and source control programs
  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports, records, correspondence, data, draft policies and related materials
  • Ability to conduct field inspections and prepare clear and concise reports, records, correspondence, and other written materials
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
  • Ability to effectively handle conflicting priorities, public enquiries and complaints
  • Cross Connection Control & Backflow prevention certification is considered an asset
The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $ $45.73 per hour (5 steps, 2020 rates) plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm.
