Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Commissioner, Community Services will play a strategic role in leading the organization to achieve Council's strategic plan in collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team providing strategic leadership to help Oakville achieve its vision to be a vibrant and livable community for all.

You will champion the use of sound business planning, exceptional management practices and sustainable resource stewardship for a team of directors who deliver and manage recreational and cultural programs, parks & open space, facilities, and emergency & fire services.

Oversight and professional guidance are also provided by the Commissioner, Community Services to the Oakville Public Library, Oakville Galleries, Oakville Arts Council and TOWARF (Town of Oakville Water and Air Rescue Force).

With your broad portfolio of services, you will lead, develop and facilitate community partnerships both in the public and private sectors.

Appling evidence-based decision-making to make optimum use of resources, you will strategically lead the organization to meet current and future needs with an emphasis on alternative service delivery and continuous improvement.

You will also drive interdisciplinary and inter-department co-operation and collaboration in support of responsive customer service.

Strategically, you'll have the opportunity to help shape the future of one of Canada's most affluent communities as it plans for growth while maintaining its unique town character.


As an accomplished leader, you have pursued related studies and/or certification and have progressively taken on senior positions in municipal government.

You have experience leading large teams, ideally within a unionized environment and have the financial skills to develop and administer complex operating and capital budgets.

With strong relationship building skills, you will forge productive relationships and are persuasive and skilled at negotiating agreements with multiple parties.

A champion of service delivery and resource stewardship, you have the judgement, leadership credentials and the vision to sustain Oakville's position as one of Canada's preferred places to live and work.
