Position Summary


Under the direction of the School Principal, this position is responsible for supporting, coordinating, and contributing to education, training, and services focused on First Nations learners, organizations, and communities as well as other.

specific activities.

The coordinator works across the school in collaboration with parents, communities, and students to promote enrolments, attendance, student success, program completion, and community relationships.

The coordinator also has a significant role in promoting the school's activities to various communities and SD 78 Schools to foster learning approaches that support families and students.

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining highly effective, open communication with First Nations learners, families, communities, school districts and other organizations for the purpose of enhancing student access to supports and success in education.

What you'll do

  • Visit homes K412 to discuss various concerns as directed by school administration.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with students, parents, staff and external stakeholders such as SD78 designates.
  • Provide monthly reports on attendance and career counselling initiatives to Principal.
  • Sit as a member of the school student support team.
  • Actively develop and maintain strong working relationships with parents, students, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Visit other bands to promote Seabird Island Community school.
  • Consistently promote school attendance, homework, and graduation completion.
  • Provide support in classrooms as directed by administration.
  • Maintain appropriate records as requested by administration.
  • Provide career counseling to high school students grades 812 as directed by the principal.
  • Pursue ongoing courses in the field of career counselling.
  • Develop and prepare appropriate career counselling materials for learning as needed.
  • Coordinate and participate in student circles as required with the assistance of the counselor to meet the student needs.
  • Work with parents, health care professionals and other support staff under the direction of administration.
  • Assist in the inside/outside supervision of the children as requested by the administration.
  • Provide such assistance as the principal considers necessary for the supervision of students at the school and at
  • School functions whenever and wherever held, which shall include, but not limited to, attendance at and
- participation in evening events, Seabird back to school events, Seabird Island Festival, etc.

  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, Executive Director, or Chief & Council.

What you Bring

Education

  • Completion of Undergraduate Certificate in a related field
  • Degree in First Nations Studies is considered an asset.
  • Counselling Certificate, or career counselling courses and relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

  • At least three years of related experience working within a First Nations context. Experience working with and a keen
understanding of First Nations traditi
