    Description
    Responsibilities :
  • Work within the total camping program and cooperate with other staff members.
  • Be familiar with all procedures and resources.
  • Maintain a responsible level of maturity and leadership.
  • Be available to attend all staff devotions and meetings, as kitchen schedule allows.
  • Work in compliance with the OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and
  • safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the highest health and safety standards for all campers, volunteers, Lower Camp, and staff
  • Maintain and support the purpose of camping ministries by helping campers to develop socially, mentally, and spiritually.
  • QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completed grade 12, plus specialized courses.
  • Food Safe – Level 1 required, Food Safe – Level 2 an asset
  • WHIMIS
  • Standard First Aid with CPR – C
  • OFA Level 3 an asset
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  • A Minimum of 3 months of prior related experience cooking for large groups is required; preference is given to those with camp experience.
  • Sound knowledge of food safety standards and procedures.
  • PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change.
  • Ability to learn quickly and use initiative.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member
  • represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner
  • must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures and associated legislation
  • self motivated and disciplined
  • be a problem solver – remain calm under pressure and deal with any situation wisely and selflessly
  • ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
  • Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
  • Food Safe, Level 1 Certification
