This position will report to and work with the Clinical Services Manager, Geriatric Mental Health and Intensive Mental Health.


Accountabilities:

  • Carry out assigned tasks under the direction of the occupational therapists and provide a variety of patient support services
  • Work proactively in accordance with the principles of social inclusion, promoting independence and mental health and addiction recovery
  • Treat patients by using therapeutic and selfcare activities designed to improve function under the direction of the occupational therapists
  • Monitor and lead assigned patient's activities in group or individualized settings and document progress in appropriate records
  • Work with the patients/families and team to actively help rehabilitate each patient to achieve his/her maximum functional level through planned therapeutic programs
  • Participate in patient care team meetings, disciplinespecific meetings, special projects as assigned, and supervision of students
  • Administrative tasks, stocking supplies, equipment inventory and cleaning/maintenance and other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Two year Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist Assistant certification from a recognized Canadian community college (required to have dual training as an occupational therapy assistant/physiotherapy assistant)
  • Two years recent clinical experience in working in or along side occupational therapy service and/or experience working in a mental health and addiction setting
  • Ability to use a variety of methods to teach occupational skills to clients required
  • Ability to motivate client group and work under pressure
  • Understanding of team dynamics and ability to work as part of a team
  • Awareness of the range of mental health and addiction issues and associated needs
  • Ability to speak, read and write the English language
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced, dynamic environment with excellent time management and organizational skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize responsibilities and complete assigned tasks with mínimal supervision
  • Good critical thinking and problemsolving skills required
  • Physical ability to do job duties as assigned; demonstrated knowledge of body mechanics to prevent musculoskeletal injuries
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education

  • Proven attendance and work record
  • May be required to travel between and work at all Osler sites

Salary:


Minimum:
$31.53 per hour


Maximum:
$34.11 per hour
