Purpose
As part of the Worley Graduate Community and under the guidance of experienced mechanical engineers, the Graduate Mechanical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) supports the delivery of safe, high-quality mechanical engineering services to Worley and its customers. This role provides structured mentorship, hands-on project exposure, and a strong technical foundation to support professional development toward registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
The Graduate Mechanical EIT will gain exposure to a broad range of mechanical engineering activities across industrial, energy, and resource sectors, building core technical skills while developing professional engineering competencies in a collaborative, project-based environment.
Responsibilities
- Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet Worley, client, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget.
You will support the mechanical engineering team by assisting with:
Equipment data sheets and specifications
- Mechanical calculations and sizing (e.g., pressure vessels, piping components, basic rotating equipment selections)
- Technical reports and design documentation
- Supporting the development of mechanical designs under supervision, including layouts, equipment arrangements, and design packages.
- Assisting with engineering studies, technical evaluations, and design reviews.
- Participating in interdisciplinary design coordination with piping, process, electrical, instrumentation, structural, and project controls teams.
- Supporting procurement activities by assisting with technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, and technical clarifications.
- Supporting construction and commissioning activities by assisting with field queries, site support, and engineering close-out documentation.
- Identifying technical issues, proposing preliminary solutions, and escalating items appropriately to senior engineers.
- Maintaining strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements and contributing to Worley's safety culture.
- Participating in Worley's graduate development program, including technical training, mentorship, and professional development activities.
What You Will Bring
Technical & Industry Experience
- Co-op, internship, or vacation student experience in an engineering, manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment is considered an asset.
Foundational knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including:
Thermodynamics
- Fluid mechanics
- Heat transfer
- Strength of materials and basic machine design
- Developing familiarity with mechanical engineering tools and software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, ANSYS, or similar).
- Basic proficiency with common productivity tools (e.g., MS Office Suite).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn in a project-driven consulting environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Education, Qualifications & Training
Required:
- A recognized and relevant Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) that is eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and progression toward Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) status.
Preferred:
- Eligibility or intent to register with the applicable provincial engineering association (e.g., APEGA, EGBC, PEO).
