Position Overview

  • Reporting to the Mississauga Cement Plant Lab Supervisor, the Cement Laboratory Technician is a developmental role consisting of activities to firstly maintain and develop the quality management program. Secondly, you will eventually participate in performing and reporting alternative fuels analysis. The incumbent will be a strong performer who can work in a dynamic industry and demonstrate problemsolving ability, while producing measurable results.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions):

  • Understanding and commitment to CRH's Occupational Health and Safety policies
  • Assist in annual ISO recertification as well as ISO management programs
  • Develop and maintain quality management program to achieve consistent plant operation, consistent production, allowing cement quality specs to be met.
  • Maintain and select calibration standards required for instrumental analyses, including operational and general maintenance
  • Analyze samples to ensure they meet plant and regulatory specifications
  • Prepare and maintain standard solutions required for wet chemical analyses
  • Analyze quality metrics and identify issues and opportunities allowing continuous improvement
  • Generate accurate laboratory reports and statistical data
  • Interface with other functional groups to communicate quality objectives and results
  • Keep track of Laboratory consumables and maintain inventory levels
  • Participate in the CCRL proficiency testing programs
  • Participate and lead continuous improvement projects & trials
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Available to work rotational schedule including Saturdays

Qualifications
Education/Experience

  • Post-Secondary School Diploma, preferably Chemical Engineer or Chemist Degree Program
  • Registered member of The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists is an asset
Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Perform all duties while abiding by safety policies and instructions provided
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and processes, including Titration & wet chemical methods, Gas Chromatography, XRF & XRD
  • Strong Analytical Laboratory skills
  • Good communication skills both written and oral
  • Proficient problemsolving abilities, organizational and time management skills
  • Must be able to work weekends and or Holidays for laboratory coverage
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical information to nontechnical staff and ability to teach others
  • Proven decisionmaking skills

  • This position may require some lifting of objects no heavier than twenty pounds (20lbs.)
  • This is sedentary in nature but require periods of standing and walking

  • This position is lab based, dusty, includes some noise, and requires standing majority of time.
