Job Summary:


CSA Group has an opportunity for a Technical Manager - Healthcare who will be responsible for providing technical leadership, management and coordination of all Principal Technical Leads (PTLs) within the assigned area of responsibility.

This role will be responsible for developing and providing policies, procedures and training to ensure engineering excellence, system integrity and consistency of technical decisions across all CSA offices and Network Members.

They will provide support and technical direction to the PTLs, who report to the Technical Manager, regarding participation in standards work, development of Other Recognized Documents (ORDs), and implementation of other new programs and services.


Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of technical decisions made across all CSA Group offices and Network Members worldwide within the assigned area of responsibility. Develops and implements technical policies and procedures, as appropriate, to improve the certification process.
  • Acts as a senior technical resource in the assigned area of responsibility. Provides highlevel direction and support to PTLs concerning nonroutine, complex issues. Reviews and approves laboratory qualification and requalification assessments when a qualification certificate is to be issued. In collaboration with Conformity & Mark Integrity, investigates and resolves issues arising out of product incident reports.
  • Develops and coordinates, with the Director, Technical Training, a system for the delivery of technical training worldwide. Establishes the criteria and qualifications for various technical roles in the certification area. Updates and adds new roles as required. Provides final approval for qualification of staff in particular competencies based on evidence presented in the training records that those staff have met all measures for that particular competency.
  • Develops and coordinates a process for resolution of technical issues for Operations. Provides issue resolution among CSA offices by managing the appeal process.
  • Leads and coordinates with Commercial, Operations, Standards and PTLs in the development of new or revised technical requirements and ensures that these requirements meet regulatory and accreditation requirements, and that an assessment or risk to CSA is conducted.
  • Directs and coordinates the involvement of PTLs in Canadian, American and International standards development. Delegates staff participation; provides policy direction and administrative infrastructure. Contributes individually to standards development activities as needed.
  • Hires, trains and assesses performance of PTLs according to corporate HR policies and procedures. Assists in the training and career development activities of the PTLs.
  • Provides Operations with a technical assessment of the performance of their technical certification staff upon request. Ability to assess the technical competence of certification staff, determine training needs, make training recommendations and provide performance evaluations.
  • Directs and coordinates the completion of annual Periodic Technical Audits of CSA certification staff.

Required Education & Experience:

  • University Degree in a relevant discipline of Engineering, with 8 years of relevant certification experience, plus 5 years of experience with Canadian, US and International standards and codes. 3+ years leadership experience; ability to motivate staff, design and implement change, and coach/develop highly functioning teams
  • Process improvement experience would be a benefit
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently deal with multiple projects, conflicting timelines and changing priorities
  • Exchanges and interprets information, develops strategies and discusses problems with heads of departments; may be required to obtain group consensus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral, at all levels; divisional management, CVPs, GBDs, Program and Project Managers, technical staff and Network Members
