Position Summary:


The Customs Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring compliant import and export activity Fisher Scientific Company of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

This includes, without limitation, adherence to all applicable Canadian and non-Canadian laws and regulations pertaining to international trade as well as ensuring compliance with Thermo Fisher Scientific corporate policies.


Agencies with whom the Manager may interface include, but are not limited to, managing CSA (Customs Self Assessment) related activities.

As well as manage PIP (Partners in Protection requirements to ensure the Company responsibilities are met with CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency.


How will you make an impact?

  • Oversee all trade compliance activity for the division to ensure compliance is met.
  • The Manager also provides assistance to CCG business units and works with the Global Trade and Compliance team to resolve trade compliance matters (_e.g._, government audits and notices of possible violations).
  • The Manager is responsible for the management, supervising and development of the Canadian Compliance team.
  • IT software management of team and software
  • Proven experience of collaborator/relationship management with a client focused approach to work. Strong ability to understand the business implications of decisions and impact on client
  • Very good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills across cultures including experience in making presentations at conferences, meetings, training sessions
  • Affinity, willingness and ability to initiate and complete business development tasks, such as strategic development, project/program proposal generation, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Support all CSA B3 and monthly RSF reporting as well as all CBSA related audits as vital.
  • Stay current with Customs related regulations, industry changes and PGA's impacting import and export activity for CCG.
  • Liaise with Finance to ensure Customs Bond sufficient to cover Fisher RSD annual reports.
  • An effective people leader with a dedication to developing employees. Ability to delegate effectively, meeting commitments while developing people
  • Ability to attract and retain highly motivated staff Ability to support the development of individual direct reports including appliance of appropriate appraisal style, to mentor, encourage and support team members

Requirements:


  • Post Secondary College or University.
  • 5+ years recent, applicable and verifiable work experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of carrier operations and costs across all modes of transportation including LTL, TL, intermodal, and parcel.
  • Ability to recognize Corporate Compliance risks and address and/or mitigate as necessary
  • Experienced in Excel, Access, and Word.
