    Technician, IT Network and Information Systems (Level 3)

    Background

    NuChem Sciences, a Sygnature Discovery business and a contract research company in organic synthesis and biology, is in full expansion and is looking for a Technician, IT Network and Information Systems (Level 3) . NuChem provides integrated services to early drug discovery projects for our clients spanning from Medicinal Chemistry, ADME/PK, Biochemistry, Cell Biology and in vivo Pharmacology, in the area of small molecule drug discovery.

    About the role

    As a Technician, IT Network and Information System, you will manage the physical and virtual network infrastructure including switches, access points and firewalls, ensuring cross site consistency on premise and in public and private could environments. You will also manage servers/storage hosted on-premise, in VMWare, Azure and AWS Resource Groups. This includes server and VM upgrades, monitoring, and patching. You'll oversee groups and roles in AD 365, Azure and AWS perform troubleshooting, and ensure application functionality. You'll serve as a liaison for scientific application testing, configure API functionality, and ensure backups are maintained.

    Role and Responsibilities

    Technical

  • Contribute to the overall business development and strategic development, providing technical insight and support.
  • Act as an escalation route for infrastructure and server/storage related issues, providing technical expertise and troubleshooting support.
  • Perform general IT tasks in support of the team, including those not explicitly specified in the role, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach.
  • Oversee the management and operations of the general network infrastructure including firewalls, switches and Wi-Fi access points ensuring optimal network security and efficiency.
  • Handle VLAN and IP requirements, configurations, and documentation, ensuring consistency across different sites within the organization.
  • Organize and implement network cabling and connectivity, ensuring efficient and streamlined operations.
  • Implement and manage network monitoring tools, ensuring constant network performance surveillance.
  • Manage telephony operations including the configuration of Zoom, ensuring efficient communication within the organization.
  • Maintain Azure/AWS routing and connectivity, as well as site to site connectivity, ensuring reliable and secure cloud operations in alignment with Sygnature's cloud strategy and security policies.
  • Oversee Internet Service Provider (ISP) relations and management, ensuring optimal internet services.
  • Develop, implement, and manage Azure and AWS, including Virtual Machines, Networking, Security, Resource Groups, etc.
  • Lead the creation of new virtual and physical server and storage resources as well as the management of existing system, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Handle Group Policy development and assignment, aligning with organizational needs and best practices.
  • Execute comprehensive server management responsibilities, including routine upgrades, consistent monitoring, and timely patching, ensuring high availability, optimal performance, and security.
  • Oversee and manage user and computer groups in Active Directory (AD) and Microsoft 365 to ensure secure and efficient access control.
  • Conduct rigorous troubleshooting and diagnosis for system issues, implementing effective solutions to maintain operational continuity.
  • Configure API functionality required for integrations, ensuring seamless interplay and optimal performance.
  • Oversee storage management operations for all VMs and on-premises servers as well as SAS storage, ensuring data integrity, backup, security, and efficient access.
  • Operational

  • Liaise with other members of the IT team, and the broader business, to seek approval where appropriate, and to respond to their requests in a timely manner.
  • Review all tickets in the helpdesk to identify areas where your expertise and technology focus may be required.
  • Leadership

  • Support and coach Junior or 1st and 2nd Line colleagues on Sygnature IT standards and best practices.
  • Contribute to and support the overall change management process.
  • Lead by example in making proactive use of the IT Helpdesk and similar tools that support the effective running or an IT Department.
  • Lead by example in maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer sciences with 2 or more years of relevant experience or DEC with more than 3 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of strategies and tools related to the maintenance of computer equipment: ticket system, remote control, antivirus, deployment, inventory and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of servers and associated services (AD, DNS, DHCP, DFS, GPO, IIS, WSUS).
  • Working knowledge of Azure and ideally AWS (asset).
  • Excellent sense of customer service.
  • Strong technical skills in problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Team spirit, good communication skills.
  • Excellent command of French and English (oral and written).
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office, experience of Linux is desirable.
  • Curious, ability to learn quickly and autonomous.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently perform various tasks.
  • Passion for lifelong learning in the field of information technology.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in industry (laboratory and/or instrument repair, troubleshooting) with background in science eg. chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and/or biotechnology.
  • Minimal Knowledge of HPLC required.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.

    This is a permanent position with a competitive salary along with annual bonus and incentive plan.
