Job Summary
As part of Sagen's underwriting leadership team, the Manager, Underwriting will support the Director, Underwriting Operations.

The Manager, Underwriting is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership to a team of underwriters in achieving department metrics and quality standards.

In addition, in the role you will manage daily processes and talent development focused on optimizing the customer experience and operational efficiencies.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to a team of underwriters who work for the Western Underwriting Center. Primary focus is deal support and building underwriter technical expertise to ensure a consistent underwriting and customer centric approach is achieved.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to underwriters by ensuring a thorough knowledge of lending and credit risk standards are adopted and effective judgement is applied when decisioning files based on the organization's risk appetite.
  • Responsible for people management activities including employee development, employee engagement, performance management, scheduling, and employee issue resolution.
  • Monitor and guide direct reports in their performance of individual, team, and departmental performance targets.
  • Serve as a strong customer and business advocate and act as a liaison between sales account managers, our customers, and the operations teams by being a senior referral source, regional expert, and partner with cross functional groups such as risk to support business strategies.
  • Assist our Sales team by providing lender presentation and facilitating lender visits focused on underwriting standards and processes.
  • Drive a bestinclass customer service by actively handling internal and external customer service inquiries and deal specific escalations raised by our customers and / or field staff.
  • Support the development of key performance indicators to measure team and individual performance through segmented analysis to identify trends.
  • Assist in managing the underwriting processes and implementation of solutions to increase operational efficiencies and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the underwriting leadership team on the department's key initiatives.
Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years' underwriting management experience with an emphasis on managing underwriting teams in a highvolume, dynamic operations environment.
  • Excellent people leadership skills with a proven ability to lead and drive skill development, employee engagement, and excel in a dynamic, teamorientated work environment.
  • Indepth knowledge of underwriting processes, tools, and technologies, including extensive technical expertise in respect of credit risk analysis, residential underwriting practices, and mortgage lending products.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, work collaboratively, and resolve problems with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills (verbal and written).
  • Proven ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment and to perform well in a high volume, high intensity environment.
  • Strong results focus, customer service orientation, and business acumen.
  • Ability to work within extended hours of operation: 8:00am to 9:00pm (Eastern Standard Time) as needed.
  • University degree is preferred.
