BC Assessment is currently looking for a Finance Co-op for a summer term (June to August) to join our Accounting and Reporting team in our Uptown office located in Victoria, BC.

Job Overview


The Finance team is looking to support the critical tax levy period of the annual financial cycle for BC Assessment.

This position is part of the Accounting and Reporting team and will be responsible for the efficient processing of a variety of payments from customers, entries to the General Ledger, and completion of account reconciliations and analysis.

The role provides an exceptional learning opportunity that offers insight into the tax levy process, and the ability to develop and expand your professional communication, stakeholder relationship management, financial accounting and analysis skills.

  • Prepare accurate reconciliations, reports and analysis while ensuring adherence to corporate policies, procedures and accounting practices.
  • Organize, prioritize, and work efficiently under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships in the course of the assigned work.
  • Use a service-oriented approach to communicate with clients and customers in order to maintain a consistently high level of service.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team or independently.
  • Ensure the appropriate exchange and coordination of financial information.

Key Accountabilities- Processes, reconciles and analyzes financial information.- Actions accounting transactions in the financial system (e.g. prepares account reconciliations, journal entries).- Investigates outstanding amounts, corrects errors or omissions, and advises senior financial staff of concerns.- Responds to financial enquiries and provides detailed information and analyses to customers and clients.- Administers revenue contracts, processes invoicing of contracts, and verifies accuracy, reasonableness and adherence to the contract.- Contributes to weekly Finance meetings.

Qualifications:


  • Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered._


Education- Completion of Grade 12 (High School Diploma).- Post-secondary studies currently in progress.- Registered in a recognized co-op program.- The following degree programs would be desirable: Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce.
