Job Summary


As Coordinator, Digitization and Digital Assets, the incumbent provides key support to the Manager, Digitization and Digital Assets and is responsible for the coordination and prioritization of all requests and functions of the Photographers.

The Coordinator provides assistance with tracking of budgets and invoices related to the activities of the Digitization & Digital Assets team.

The position regularly interfaces with the Art Documentation and Storage team within Collections & Loans, as well as NGC colleagues in Copyright, Technical Services, Web and Digital Media, and IT on digitization initiatives.

The incumbent must understand the functioning of the Collections Management database (MimsyXG) and the Digital Asset Management System (Piction) in detail.

Main Duties


  • Overall coordination and prioritization of all requests and functions of the Photographers.
  • Coordinates the completion of requests for digitization of works of art.
  • Coordinates and/or carries out movement of artworks to and from the department
  • Responsible for the safe handling, movement, and preparation of works of art for photography.
  • Maintains the inventory of material and equipment for the section.
  • Supports and contributes to the financial costing & forecasting of departmental expenditures
  • Represents the Digitization team at various meetings and on committees and acts on behalf of the Manager as required

Requirements:


Education:

Post-secondary degree or diploma in art history or museum studies OR an equivalent combination of 3 years or more of related work experience


Work Experience:


  • 2 years minimum working knowledge of digital photography, particularly studio production and capturing artworks in situ and architectural spaces
  • 23 years of experience handling complex, and often fragile, objects of various media and materials in a museum environment.
  • 2 years of experience with some form of database knowledge including photographic file labeling conventions and storage, management, and retrieval of images for digital archives.
  • Experience using a financial system, bookkeeping and variance reporting.

  • Ability to safely handle fragile equipment manually, alone or with another person;
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision and work well under pressure;
  • Ability to work in an everchanging environment that has multiple competing priorities;
  • Excellent ability to evaluate internal requests, make recommendations, and ensure goals are achieved;
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, judgement, integrity, reliability and team player with a positive attitude;
