Summary:


Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in the Toronto Native Community.


We do this by creating a service model that is culture-based and respects the values of Native people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination and through the integration of holistic, culturally based prevention services that are child centred, family focused, and community driven.


Primary Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Youth Training and Employment, the ECE Education and Employment Case Manager will:

  • Provide fair, respectful and culturally relevant service to Aboriginal children and families, consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Native Child and Family Services of Toronto.
  • Organize and assist Mothercraft College in implementing a 12 month inperson ECE diploma program to Indigenous learners (August 2023August 2024)
  • Organize and assist Mothercraft College in implementing a 12 month virtual learning ECE diploma program to Indigenous learners (November 2023
  • November 2024)
  • Liaise with Mothercraft College and other internal/external agencies regarding the preparation and implementation of the certified course.
  • Prepare, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the program.
  • Regularly connect and liaise with professors and program staff around areas of support, program planning, and program evaluation.
  • Recruit, monitor, and provide referrals and other wrap around supports as necessary to support students.
  • Provide Individualized case management support to students enrolled in the program
  • Advocate on behalf of youth to ensure all rights and entitlements are secured.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress on a monthly basis as well as a final group progress report.
  • Develop and maintain case files and submit reports as required.
  • Provide support and guidance around course material and homework.
  • Provide lifestyle guidance, cultural enrichment and employment preparation.
  • Support the development of essential skills such as communication, problem solving and team work.
  • Support participants in obtaining practicum placements as part of the program requirements
  • Foster leadership in youth and build a solid foundation of emotional support.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:


  • Lived experiences as an Aboriginal person with the ability to transfer traditional knowledge and teachings, respecting the unique Cultural distinctions and variations found throughout Turtle Island.
  • Extensive knowledge of the history and culture of Indigenous Peoples including First Nation, Métis, and Inuit.
  • ECE/CYW Diploma along with at least 1 year related experience, or alternatively, an equivalent combination of relevant education in a related field and experience working with Indigenous youth will be considered.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of the Indigenous community, combined with previous community development experience.
  • Ability and experience in providing individualized case management in a culturally appropriate manner that aligns with best practices
  • Knowledge of social risk factors in relation to the Urban Indigenous community.
  • Knowledge and skills in the design, development, delivery and evaluation of group programs/workshops.
  • Excellent organizational skills and computer skills.
  • Familiarity with community resources or equivalent based on training and experience.
  • Flexibility to be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • High level of initiative and autonomy, professionalism and respect for confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values into practice, service and relationships.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity and build strong internal relationships
  • Knowledge of NCFST programs and services.
  • Strong culturally grounded crisis intervention and deescalation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills that focus on relationship building.
  • Ability to provide a Criminal Records Check deemed satisfactory by the employer upon offer of employment.
  • Ability to provide an acceptable Child Welfare Check with Vulnerable Person Sector Search (VPSS).
