    ATCO is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer in the Transmission Lines Engineering Department based in either the Edmonton or Calgary office.

    This position will report to a Supervising Engineer and will be part of a multi-disciplined engineering team responsible for the design of new and existing transmission lines throughout Alberta. The senior engineer will work on variety of projects, DA (Direct Assigned), TCM (Transmission Capital Maintenance), MPC (Market Participant Choice) etc., and with variety of stakeholders throughout the project life cycle, from pre-feasibility to project close out. The ideal candidate will be with a strong line engineering design background, electrical utility experience, and excellent leadership and communication skills.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design of overhead transmission lines ranging from 69kV to 500kV.
    • Prepare DBM (Design Basis Memorandum), design criteria and project cost estimates for line design projects.
    • Design and layout transmission structures and transmission lines using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER.
    • Perform engineering calculations in relation to transmission lines.
    • Prepare Bill of Materials, bid documentation and provide procurement support.
    • Prepare project proposals for outsourcing project work.
    • Work with steel pole vendors on steel structure procurement.
    • Provide construction support throughout the projects.
    • Work closely with right -of-way planning on route planning of new transmission lines.
    • Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure the project stays on track.
    • Work with a variety of other stakeholders as required.
    • Mentor junior engineers, engineers in training and co-op students.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in either Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
    • Professional Engineer registered with or qualifies for registration with the Association of Engineers & Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience, preferably in an electrical utility environment.
    • Excellent understanding of transmission line design codes and standards.
    • Experience with Power Line Systems software including PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER is required.
    • Experience with proposal and business case writing is an asset.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Maintain a class 5 driver's license in good standing.
