Job Description Summary:


The Medical Writer is accountable for all aspects of writing program content for a variety of programs, in a variety of formats (journal article, slide/lecture kit, monograph, etc.).

The Medical Writer is expected to become familiar with the product, science, and marketing issues for those products on which he/she works.

The Medical Writer functions as an integral part of the team, working in partnership with project, editorial, and medical/scientific staff.

Provides writing and annotation services for assigned brand.

Learns product (including science and marketing issues) necessary for successful fulfillment of the task.

Champions the ?agency of the future, digital at the core? philosophy.

Follows established procedures/guidelines to ensure work quality.


Familiarizes himself/herself with the product and the client's objectives, including product information, visual aids, pivotal trials, journal articles, related promotional material, boilerplate copy, and updates.

Meets regularly with clients to discuss content-related issues.

Where required, works closely with key opinion leaders in developing medical content.

Collaborates with team members on conceptualization of projects with regard to messaging and copy flow.

Directs and/or conducts research necessary for the successful conceptualization and/or execution of writing assignments.

Attends start-up and status meetings related to assigned projects.

Follows project timelines and works closely with project team to ensure that timelines are met.

Attends client medical/legal/regulatory review meetings.

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Participates in market research as needed.


Maintains an open and free dialogue with his/her product team, especially editor and AE, to facilitate the free flow of ideas, more complete agreement on issues, greater accuracy, and a stronger team.

Background/experience and skills

Advanced degree (PhD, MD, PharmD) degree.

1-2 years of in writing medical content (promotional)


Computer programs:
MS Office, including Word and PowerPoint.

Internet search capabilities.

Literature search expertise
