- Act as technical lead and/or technical reviewer on mine closure projects
- Provide specialty expertise in one or more technical disciplines involved in mine closure, such as soil mechanics, hydrogeology, hydrology, geochemistry, landform design, landscape evolution
- Integrate with BGCs multidisciplinary teams and with partners specializing in other disciplines such as ecology and soil science
- Project management of technical deliverables, budgets, and schedules
- Train and mentor junior and intermediate staff in the field and office
- Participate in business development and proposal preparation
- Author reports and present results to internal and external groups
- Work with client and partner representatives
- Travel as required to remote project sites
- Promote BGC vision, values, and culture amongst BGC staff
- Undergraduate degree in geology, earth sciences, geological, civil, mining, or environmental engineering (graduate degree an asset)
- Registered P.Eng. or P.Geo. with EGBC or other Canadian engineering association
- 10+ years of mine closure engineering experience
- Experience preparing mine closure plans
- Experience with landform and cover design and construction
- Experience with options analysis and risk assessments
- Experience with variably-saturated soils, and geotechnical, hydrogeological, or hydrological modelling
- Strong familiarity with Canadian provincial and federal regulatory environments related to mine closure

The Role
BGC is seeking a Senior Mine Closure Engineer/Specialist with experience in mine closure planning and landform and cover design. The successful candidate will join our growing team of closure specialists and have a leadership role in advancing the strategic vision and direction of BGCs mine closure practice. They will work closely with BGCs mining team, project managers, engineers, and geoscientists, and will provide technical guidance, leadership, and mentorship on large, multi-disciplinary mining projects.
This position can be based at any of BGCs office locations.
