Manager of Urban Planning

Please note:
This is a one year Management Contract Position.


THE POSITION

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for following progress of all Permits projects & files within the Urban Planning Department.
  • Prepares reports for council.
  • Manages unionized employees.
  • Ensure employees are trained in all aspects of their job.
  • Ensures all projects completed are in conformity with the City Bylaws.
  • Tracks and proposes changes to Bylaws to meet developing municipal needs.
  • Ensures that resident complaints related to the Urban Planning department are properly dealt with and followed up.
  • Responsible for communication with residents, organizations, and internal City departments regarding Urban Planning issues.
  • Develops and improves customer service on an ongoing basis for residents and internal customers and keeps residents informed on current files.
  • Creates, develops and enhances policies and procedures related to the Urban Planning Department.
  • Responsible for the Department's budget tracking.
  • Ensures correct content for monthly reports and statistical reporting.
  • Manages and oversees projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, objectives, strategies and implications of Urban, and Environmental Planning.
  • Excellent knowledge of the City and its residents.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in both French and English are a must.
