    General Manager, Packaged Gas - Calgary, AB

    The General Manager Western Canada will be responsible to lead the Packaged Gas business with full P&L accountability to lead and manage an employee base of 400 employees in sales, plant production and distribution teams in the region.

    Reporting to the Vice President Packaged Gas, this position is responsible to set the strategic direction for the Region delivering profitable sales growth while promoting and leading a culture of safety as well as business optimization that meets business objectives for the national Packaged Gas business. This position requires a deep understanding of the business with a proven track record in leading high performing teams.

    Key Accountabilities:
    • You will be accountable for delivering the region's annual business plan results related to safety, revenue, variable margin, operating profit and working capital.
    • Embrace the culture and build credibility and relationships internally by adopting a visible, hands-on, field-oriented approach. Visit branch locations, production plants and customer sites to develop a deep knowledge base of the people and the business.
    • Working closely with your commercial sales teams, you will be responsible to develop business strategies by leveraging Linde's value-added solutions, which drives profitable sales growth through differentiation and promotes superior customer service to both existing and new customers.
    • Work closely with Corporate support teams to ensure best practices and optimization is adopted and achieved through the various business streams in the Region.
    • Coach, mentor, train and develop the team, to build a strong bench strength of candidates for future succession opportunities.
    • Lead by example and establish a high standard for a positive, inclusive and collaborative team culture.
    • Be actively involved in key customer contract negotiations and forge of strong relationships with major customers.
    • You will implement productivity projects and lead business improvement initiatives the drive cost savings and business efficiency.


    Required Qualifications:
    • The ideal candidate will have a proven record of success managing a large teams toward the achievement of top and bottom line growth objectives in a highly competitive market, previous P&L management experience is essential.
    • While experience in packaged gases is ideal, the chosen candidate could also have experience selling industrial products to similar end users in a value added/solutions sell environment and experience working with and through a large distributor/branch/retail network will be ideal.
    • Well defined Leadership qualities, creativity, the ability to learn and adapt quickly and a strong strategic mindset humble, balanced, and down-to-earth.
    • You must have a hands-on, visible, roll-up-the sleeves style able to thrive in a no-nonsense, people focused environment, and be able to both operate and thrive in the trenches, while also providing strong strategic oversight.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills.
    • Strong Prioritization skills based on metric and data-driven decision making.
    • Must be willing to travel on average 30% of the time.
    • Undergraduate University degree in business or engineering preferred.
