Mandate


Reporting to the Zone Medical Executive Director and working with an Administrative co-lead, the Medical Site Lead provides leadership and direction in the management and development of the site and manages the day to day operations of that site.

The site lead directs and coordinates site operations and provides leadership to members of the health team in order to create and support the culture of the organization.

He/she acts as the delegate at the applicable site with regard to the obligations outlined in Section 31 of the Bylaws.


Responsibilities:


Site Operations


In collaboration with the Administrative co-lead, participates in the implementation of the NSHA's strategic priorities/plan at the applicable site level.


  • Provides operational support to issues that arise with the facility/site.
  • Responsible for making space allocation decisions and for signoff of any service changes to the site (ie. Bed closure, service reductions, etc.) in collaboration with the Zone Medical Executive Director and the Executive Director Health Services.
  • Provides a critical liaison between the Executive Medical Director and physicians, residents, medical students.
  • In cooperation with Communications, supports positive public relations within the site and surrounding communities.
  • Provides leadership in promoting and providing service within the Quality Framework while adhering to Values, Ethics, Patient & Occupational Safety philosophies and practices.
  • Ensures provision of site orientation to new medical staff and medical learners

Team Leadership and Partnership

  • In partnership with Administrative site colead, ensures that the Zone Medical Executive Director is aware of the perspectives of Medical Staff at the applicable site and brings information relevant to the site forward for consideration during the development and implementation of strategic priorities/plans.
  • Supports the development and wellness of the medical staff, physicians, volunteers and caregivers with the site/local area.
  • Enables, facilitates and ensures effective team communications and functions.

Safety and Emergency Planning

  • In collaboration with Administrative colead, provides leadership in fostering a culture of safety for patients/clients, staff, volunteers, physicians and public safety.

Access & Flow

  • Attends meetings of the Access and Flow Network Council and contributes to the Network by sharing local context and by participating in the development of strategies, policies and procedures that promote increased access and flow of patients.
  • Acts as the champion at the site for promoting and implementing best practices related to access and flow as determined by the Access and Flow Network. This includes working across all departments at the site and leading the implementation of policies and standards as well as evaluating their impact.
  • Working with colead, responsible for developing and implementing a plan focused on improving access and flow for the regional site as well as surrounding area community hospitals.
  • In collaboration with the Zone Medical Executive Director, oversees the work of the Medical Education and Physician Advisor at their respective site.

Action for Health Initiatives

  • In collaboration with Administrative colead, participates in the development of the Action of Health Initiatives, and acts as a champion to the initiatives within their site.
  • Participates in the monitoring of standards, quality, and utilization of resources of the site in the zone, and the action for health initiative metrics
    .

Qualifications:


  • Medical Doctor (with or without specialty) with evidence of ongoing leadership training
  • Experience at a senior leadership level involved in the planning and delivering medical programs and services.
  • Committee experience.
  • Experience engaging, mentoring and empowering teams and stakeholder in a collaborative, participative manner to develop operational plans and achieve objectives.
