The Assistant Controller is a key finance role within the manufacturing operation at Conifex. They are responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations and accounting activities specific to the manufacturing process. The Assistant Controller collaborates closely with the operations team to ensure accurate financial reporting, cost control, and operational efficiency. This role encompasses a wide range of financial responsibilities, including cost accounting, inventory management, budgeting, and financial analysis.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Cost Accounting and Analysis:_
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems, processes, and controls to accurately track and allocate manufacturing costs, including direct materials, direct labor, and overhead expenses.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs, variances, and trends, providing insights and recommendations to optimize costs and improve profitability.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to cost efficiency and productivity.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:_
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports specific to manufacturing, such as production costs, inventory valuation, and cost of goods sold (COGS).
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and yearend financial reporting related to manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support decisionmaking and strategic planning within the manufacturing function.
  • Inventory Management:_
  • Oversee inventory control processes, including monitoring stock levels, tracking inventory movements, and conducting regular inventory reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with the operations and procurement teams to optimize inventory levels, minimize carrying costs, and ensure timely availability of materials and components.
  • Perform periodic inventory valuations and impairment assessments in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:_
  • Collaborate with the operations team to develop annual manufacturing budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor and analyze actual performance against budgeted targets, identifying and explaining significant variances.
  • Provide financial support and guidance to the operations team in managing manufacturing costs and meeting financial goals.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies related to manufacturing operations.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal control processes to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and maintain data integrity.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits specific to manufacturing processes and financial reporting.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration:_
  • Provide financial guidance to the greater manufacturing team, fostering a collaborative and highperforming work environment.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams, including operations, procurement, and finance, to drive process improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. A CPA designation is required.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in financial management or accounting roles within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, manufacturing processes, and relevant accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS).
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and financial management software, as well as advanced skills in Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Solid understanding of inventory management principles and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with crossfunctional teams and present financial information to nonfinancial stakeholders.
