About the Position

The Laboratory Analyst is responsible for performing analysis in various matrices in the FARM section using Auto Analyzer or ICP instrumentation.

This position will also perform routine functions such as sample preparation and lab maintenance.

The Laboratory Analyst will follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and adhere to strict QA/QC requirements, to ensure clients receive efficient service and quality results.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples, reagents, standards, and reference materials for analysis;
  • Prepare Auto analyzer and ICP Instrumentation;
  • Analyze samples of different matrices using laboratory instrumentation to generate accurate results for clients;
  • Interpret data, conduct calculations and transfer data into electronic data collection software;
  • Evaluate data and troubleshoot problems with the data/extraction/instrumentation;
  • Perform instrument/equipment calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and/or repairs as required;
  • Organize workload to meet Turn Around Times (TATs);
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Good English communication skills (auditory, verbal, written, and reading) as required;
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) on a basic level;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Accurate and efficient data entry skills;
  • Capability to perform repetitive tasks correctly in a fastpaced environment;
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines such as Turnaround Times (TAT) and holding requirements;
  • Analytical and process oriented skills with the ability to critically think in ambiguous situations;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;
  • A commitment to excellence and a clientfocused attitude.
Required Qualifications

  • Completion of B.Sc. or Technical Diploma in Chemistry or a related discipline (required);
  • 23 years' experience in an analytical laboratory or related field experience (asset);
  • Previous experience with Auto Analyzer or ICP (asset).
Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs./14 kg (25 litre containers) regularly and carry for short distances;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required.
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Ability to stand for up to a full shift;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;
  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
