EMC also operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

    What you'll do

Responsibilities


Reporting to the Senior Manager of Finance, this role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial reporting functions of the Company.

Major components of the position include overseeing the production of all Company and divisional financial reports, overseeing the preparation of month end financial statements, preparation of the year-end audited financial statements and staff supervision and performance management.

Assessing and improving overall department performance is expected - both current and long term, to meet company objectives. The fundamental management skills required include demonstrated leadership, planning, organization, time-management, directing and motivating department staff.


The position entails but is not limited to the following:

  • Oversees the preparation of monthly financial statements of the organization to meet monthly reporting deadlines. Analyzes & reviews monthly financial statements including income statements & balance sheets and distributes reports to stakeholders on the financial results of the Company.
  • Works collaboratively with and provides support to Billing & Collections team, ensuring that the billing for ambulance services is carried out consistent with policies and regulations developed by DHW and EMC.
  • Develops and leads the finance staff demonstrating superior conflict resolution skills: balances assertiveness and sensitivity. Successfully mediates conflict between employees and between the organization and external factors.
  • Maintains a monthly working paper file to support all significant balance sheet amounts and specific income statement accounts. Maintains copies of all supporting documentation to support these amounts.
  • Preparation of the yearend financial statements and note disclosure.
  • Works closely with Grant Thornton, the external auditors during yearend audits (both fiscal and calendar).
  • Collaboratively works with other managers to provide support and expertise and asks questions to ensure accuracy in the budgets and costing prepared as well as guidance and advice to support operational decisions.
  • Looks for efficiencies and innovation in workflow and processes and provides recommendations for improvement to Senior leadership.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Education:


  • Must have an Undergraduate Degree in Business (Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Business Administration) with a concentration in accounting.
  • CPA designation as an asset.
  • Minimum three years of related experience
  • Experience with all aspects of financial statement preparation in a private enterprise is required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft suites including Excel, Word, and Power Point
