Safe and Caring Schools Support(School and Student Support B)

Salary:
$33.26 per hour + 18.6% in lieu of benefits
Safe and Caring Schools Support performs a variety of proactive work which serves to enhance the safety and security of schools throughout the District.
An employee in this classification may also be required to respond to emergent situations requiring immediate and critical assessment and response.
In addition, Safe and Caring Schools Support may perform work which requires the utilization of conflict resolution strategies. This position involves substantial communication and interaction with students, staff, visitors and community members.Itinerant Assignment:
A Safe and Caring Schools Support (SCSS) is hired to work in the Vancouver School District and not for a particular school or a restricted set of duties.
SCSS will be assigned to work at schools by the District Principal of Safe and Caring Schools based on school and District needs.
In most cases each SCSS will be assigned to share their time between more than one (1) site. The SCSS will report to the District Principal of Safe and Caring schools.In this role, you will:
Work as part of the Safe and Caring School Department to support the delivery of a variety of evidence-based strategies/interventions to enhance the student social, emotional and behavioural development, with a focus on at risk/at promise vulnerable students and families
Develop and implement programs and/or structures to promote positive and pro-active connection with the school community, including interventions to promote and support school attendance and social connections
Plan and implement relevant prevention programs in conjunction with the Safe and Caring School team
Provide support to schools in assessments of risk as part of the Violent Risk Threat Assessment process
Respond to emergent issues and concerns by assessing the situation, identifying and utilizing the most appropriate response to resolve the issue or concern
Provide support and follow up to the school community, including students, staff, and families, following a critical and/or violent incident in consultation with the school administrators, school counselling team, and/or District Principal
Assist administrators with the identification and observation of activities and trends in the school, which may pose potential risks to the safety and security of students, staff, visitors and the facility
Assist Administrators as necessary, in the development of positive, proactive and/or reactive strategies to ensure schools remain safe, secure, enjoyable places for all staff and students
Support and facilitate restorative processes and healing circles, in collaboration with school-based Administrators and counsellors, following incidents of concern in the school community including violent incidents, threats, racism, discrimination, and/or other critical incidents
Liaise with school and /or district-based professionals, community agencies and families in support of vulnerable students
Track and collect data and information on student supports and interventions
Perform other work within the job band as assigned
Qualifications:
Completion of grade 12 plus 2 years of full-time equivalent post-secondary education and/or diploma in any of the following areas: Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Immigration/Migration studies, Ethnic/Cultural/Indigenous studies, Human Development and Family studies, Applied Behaviour Science or Education
Minimum 2 years of related experience
Knowledge of developmental psychology and the ability to assess the behavioural and social-emotional needs of students
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups, such as, staff, families and community agencies
This position requires travelling throughout the District and may work irregular hours
