Position Overview


This position will report to the Research Manager, but accountabilities will come from both the Research Manager and the Principal Investigator.

The Research Associate will also work in collaboration with other team members and faculty. The Research Associate will be responsible for coordinating and supporting research-related activities.

Time will be split between projects that focus on community-based research in primary care. The Research Coordinator will be responsible for supporting research-related activities.

The employee must be willing to occasionally travel within Calgary for project related activities.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • General administrative duties related to the research projects
  • Coordinating and carrying out research activities of key research studies in consultation with the principal investigator and research team leadership
  • Ensure appropriate regulations are adhered to in the conduct of research
  • Maintaining research data confidentiality
  • Under limited supervision, responsible for performing a range of research and coordination tasks in support of study objectives
  • Providing support to research assistants and students
  • Coordinating communication between internal and external members
  • Collaborating with the study investigators to perform and complete relevant parts of the study, such as obtaining signatures, discussing questions that come up, reviewing data anomalies, etc.
  • Make recommendations to policy or procedural changes as needed
  • Participant recruitment and data collection
  • Maintaining research databases and abstracting data from existing databases
  • Analysis and interpretation of data
  • Assisting with report writing, production of research papers suitable for publication, and supporting knowledge translation activities

Qualifications / Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree at a minimum in a healthrelated field, with a preference for a Master's degree
  • A minimum 3 years related work experience in a research setting, particularly conducting research with physicians and patients
  • 13 years experience conducting quantitative and qualitative health research. Clinical research experience is an asset
  • Intermediate software and database experience required with proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with REDCap is an asset
  • Experience in project coordination, such as maintaining a GANTT chart, liaising with project staff and partners, is an asset
  • Leadership, communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving skills, and interpersonal skills required
  • Resourceful, innovative, creative, strategic, problem solves
  • Good judgment and concern for detail and accuracy
  • Ability to receive direction, collaborate with others in setting goals, and work effectively in teams to achieve agreed upon goals
  • Ability to work independently and promote good teamwork
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy dealing with patients, staff, and physicians
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues from various disciplines and external collaborators within a complex initiative
