5 Star Paving is recruiting for aConstruction Estimator Position in the ICI construction sector and public infrastructure works.
The Role
- Search and discuss projects from public, private or invited tender notices and discuss these opportunities with Senior Office Staff
- Coordinate and gather information for tender/estimate submission.
- Visit sites to fully understand the magnitude of the selected project to produce logical planning and site parameters.
- Analyze plans and specifications to evaluate costeffective methods for performing the work.
- Read and evaluate in detail the plans, specifications, and addendum to produce accurate takeoffs, productions, costing, subcontractor and supplier selection.
- Gather pricing from suppliers and subcontractors for estimates.
- Write clear and concise scopes of work for estimates utilizing 5 Star Paving standard templates.
- Review and perform quality checks on team estimates.
- Manage post bid reviews.
- Coordinate and work with other team members to produce highly accurate estimates.
- Lead estimating turnover meetings with project team to assist planning and budget process.
- Establish and manage relationships with suppliers and sub trades to ensure sound and competitive pricing is received.
Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience organizing and preparing cost estimates and proposals for construction projects in the ICI sector and public infrastructure projects.
Post-secondary degree or diploma with focus in civil engineering or construction technology engineering is desirable.
Experience in commercial, institutional and industrial projects and public infrastructure projects.
Proven ability to create and maintain effective relationships with clients, vendors, sub-contracts, architects, designers, field superintendents and staff.
Duties:
- Review and analyze project plans and specifications to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate
- Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and identifying potential cost savings opportunities
- Work with project managers to develop project schedules, budgets, and resource requirements
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and other vendors to ensure competitive pricing
- Participate in preconstruction meetings with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders
- Prepare bid packages for submission to clients
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction estimating
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and techniques
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software (e.g. PlanSwift)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
