    Role Description

    Reporting to the Director of Energy and Sustainability, you will be responsible for safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of the CHP, related tunnel systems, and steam systems within buildings through effective planning, supervision, and leadership. As a strong leader of people, you will be accountable for the coordination and supervision of a variety of administrative and planning functions, including scheduling of staff and maintenance, developing budgets, monitoring projects, and providing support to your team members. Additionally, you will perform regular inspections to ensure compliance, conduct investigations if anything out of the ordinary is reported, and work closely with the local regulatory authority.

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a team to create an atmosphere built on trust and respect, providing knowledge, expertise, and leadership to fellow staff
  • Developing and implementing short and long term operating, maintenance and capital plans. Participating and leading the planning and execution of capital projects, maintenance projects and shutdowns. Preparing estimates, cost analyses and financial control of projects.
  • Ensuring boilers and related equipment and tunnel systems operate and are maintained in compliance with various federal, provincial, and municipal acts and regulations
  • Supporting the development of the annual operating budget and forecasts
  • Anticipating and identifying system failures and implement means to prevent recurrence
  • Participating in the Utilities Master Plan and Campus Master Plan development, updating and implementation
  • Supervising and issuing maintenance and construction tenders and initiates purchase requisitions. Evaluating, awarding and monitoring contracted materials and services relating to CHP operation and maintenance
  • Ensuring all work is conducted in a safe and timely manner
  • Implementing and supporting staff development; ensuring redundancy in terms of critical knowledge of personnel
  • Coordinating with engineers, consultants, suppliers, contractors, government departments and other related personnel and agencies
  • Monitoring, evaluating, and improving the environmental performance of the CHP
  • Your Qualifications

    As a second-class Power Engineer, you couple strong people management experience with technical skills and a mechanical aptitude. When creating efficient plans and schedules, you apply your extensive maintenance knowledge and exceptional organizational skills to your benefit. Comfortable with administrative tasks, your advanced computer skills and attention to detail ensure smooth operations. You are a natural leader, demonstrated through hands-on supervision, mentorship roles, and active participation in committees, sports, or volunteer positions.

    Your qualifications include:

  • Possession of a valid second-class Power Engineers License as issued by the Province of New Brunswick
  • 10+ years' experience in a comparable high-pressure steam plant environment is required
  • Demonstrated experience leading, managing, and motivating a team
  • Firm understanding of corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance
  • Familiarity with similar size and classification of steam boilers and systems in the context of continuous improvement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel is required; MS Project would be an asset
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new maintenance techniques & standards, technologies, and equipment
  • Project/planning training or experience is considered an asset
