Durose Manufacturing Ltd, A leader and progressive manufacturer of fabricated Steel products, is seeking a Day Shift Machine Shop Supervisor for their facility in Guelph.


Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position requires an experienced, energetic, and detail-focused individual that wants to be a part of a growing team and company.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage work in progress and maintain the shop production schedule.
  • Troubleshoot problems and provide training or guidance to machinists as required.
  • Must be able to set up, operate and run boring mills.
  • Ensure operators perform tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Develop machine setups and expedite the setup process.
  • Assign tasks to the programmer as required by schedule.
  • Work with the programmer and machinists to develop efficient programs.
  • Oversee all personnel issues including performance, employee relation issues and disciplinary process in conjunction with company policies and management.
  • Work closely with Quality department to ensure conformance of parts.
  • Responsible to ensure hours are logged to proper order and report daily for payroll.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with all Health & Safety regulations
  • Provide support to the estimating team regarding machine processes.
  • Manage tooling requirements.
  • Perform any additional duties per manager's direction.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

  • Completion of college/postsecondary education or equivalent
  • Machinist trade certificate
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, organizational, problem solving, and project management skills.
  • 10 years of CNC milling machine setup and operating experience, preferably with welded fabrications.
  • 3 years' experience in a supervisory role.
  • Mastercam experience (MX9 or newer) with the ability to create programs for facing, milling, tapping, and boring.
  • Good rigging knowledge and comfortable handling and large fabrications weighing up to and over 10 tons.
  • Ability to meet challenging deadlines in an efficient and profitable manner.
  • Have an indepth knowledge of GD&T
  • Experience with Heidenhain and Fanuc Controls
  • High attention to detail and superior knowledge of machine drawings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and communicate effectively with others.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and be selfmotivated
  • A working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Industrial Regulations and the Employment Standards Act
  • Proven track record in effective team building and continuous improvement initiatives
