What We Need:

***We are seeking an innovative, self-directed individual with exceptional leadership qualities to support excellence in clinical practice and education within our Childbirth and Children's program obstetrical inpatient units at Markham Stouffville Hospital while contributing to a strong organization-wide interprofessional practice environment. As an educator in childbirth services, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive and safe environment for both staff and patients. Your effective communication skills will be instrumental in providing clear and constructive feedback to support the ongoing development of staff. Your leadership abilities will shine through as you promote a culture where speaking up for safety is encouraged, talent is identified and nurtured, and positive leadership influences the team. The dynamic nature of childbirth services requires an individual who is adaptable to change, capable of agile leadership, and well-versed in Lean principles for continuous improvement. Building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, utilizing the art of influence to support necessary changes, and incorporating a person-centered philosophy will enhance your effectiveness in educating and guiding both staff and patients. Your global perspective, political astuteness, and system thinking will contribute to the overall success of the program and as an organization ensuring a commitment to quality improvement and adherence to relevant standards. This educator role requires someone with a proactive and positive mindset, taking initiative in the face of challenges and demonstrating a service-oriented approach. In addition to supporting Childbirth Services there will be corporate education and training required of the role to support organizational initiatives.


What you bring to the role:

  • Current registration with the CNO in good standing
  • Masters degree in nursing with education focus is required or in progress
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in acute hospital setting is required
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in Childbirth Services is required
  • Experience teaching and training adults and employing adult learning principles preferred
  • BLS instructor with Heart and Stroke required or commitment to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Fetal Health Surveillance Instructor or commitment to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Neontal Resuscitation Program Instructor or commitment to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate
  • Expertise in the delivery of formal and informal education/coaching
  • Expertise in curriculum development, classroom instruction, clinical training, assessment and evaluation
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and interprofessional collaborative practice, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proven abilities in complex analysis, critical thinking and problem solving
  • Proven evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Computer proficiency, preferably in MS office and Meditech EMR
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
  • Demonstrated commitment to a safe environment for staff, patients and families by working in compliance with the Occupation
