Summer Student (8 weeks in length)

Organizational Background
Durham Christian Homes is a charitable, not for profit organization dedicated to serving seniors. We own and operate two senior independent living buildings, as well as two long-term care homes.


Position Summary

Working within our senior independent living building, the Activity Worker will work alongside the Community LifeCoordinator (CLC) and be responsible for assisting with the coordination, organizing, promoting and facilitating of accessible activities, activation programing and special events for residents at our Whitby sites.

Duties should be performed in a manner consistent with our Core Values while ensuring resident safety, including but not limited to the following:


Tasks and Responsibilities:

Under the guidance and direction of the Community Life Coordinator, duties and responsibilities for the Activity Aide would include:

• Assisting with the development and creation of the monthly newsletter to our residents;
• Assisting with and running preplanned programs for our seniors;
• Assisting with special events, fundraisers and special outings, as required;
• Interact with our resident population to assist with inquiries around programming and events;
• Assist with the delivery of lunch for select residents, as necessary;
• Assist with occasional reception coverage, as needed.

The successful applicant must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including the 3rd Booster


Qualifications:

As this position has been made possible by the
Canada Summer Jobs Program through the Government of Canada, all applicants must meet the following conditions:

• Be between 15and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
• Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Enrollment in a recreational program preferred

Duration, Hours of Work and Salary

This position has been approved based on thirty-five (35) hours per week for a maximum of eight (8) weeks with an hourly wage of $16.50.

Hours of work would be Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Placement end date not to exceed September 2, 2023.
