Why is this role important?

  • The Analyst, Data Quality (DQ), has an important role in supporting core operations and the production of key DQ deliverables related to the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) databases at the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). Activities include preparing updates to DQ products, processing data, participating in adhoc requests, and creating data quality documentation. As part of the Clinical Administrative Databases Operations department, the Analyst will also participate in department projects and initiatives, as well as department and branch meetings as required.
  • What you'll do
  • 1. Works with Program Lead and team members to support all phases of operational DQ updates, including the production and updating of relevant documentation, updating and executing SAS and/or Python codes, and preparing DQ products for release and dissemination.
  • 2. Ensures accuracy and continued improvement of databases through activities such as the review/investigation of DQ issues, and effectively addressing these issues in the documentation.
  • 3. Assists with the methodological development of new analyses. Writes and executes SAS and/or Python codes required for the development, computation, analysis, and/or verification of data in analytic or DQ reports.
  • 4. Prepares related documentation as required, including technical documentation and interpretive text.
  • 5. Works with Senior Analyst and other members of the team supporting the analysis and dissemination of health information statistics, including but not limited to data verification and preparation of data for publication.
  • 6. Provides analytical support to respond adhoc data requests and special studies. Liaises with key stakeholders to fully define data and/or analytical requirements.
  • 7. Participates in the design of test strategies/test cases, develops code and scripts and provides analytical support to ensure accurate and comprehensive testing of upgrades and enhancements to data collection and reporting systems.
  • 8. Develops and maintains detailed knowledge of data and tools (e.g., Python, SAS, R Excel) used to produce standard and ad hoc outputs.
  • 9. Ensures adherence to CIHI's privacy and confidentiality of health information principles and policies when using and disseminating information.
  • 10. Contributes to key activities of the Acute and Ambulatory Care Information Services branch as required, including coordination of activities with the other program areas.
  • What you'll bring to the table
  • Undergraduate degree in Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, Statistics, Social Sciences, or a related field. A graduate degree would be an asset.
  • One to three years of experience working with relational databases / large datasets, including manipulation, analysis, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with data manipulation and statistical software, including Python, SAS and Excel.
  • Ability to develop data quality measures and resolve data anomalies and discrepancies.
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problemsolving skills.
  • Proven time management skills, and the ability to prioritize responsibilities and work effectively to meet deadlines is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and selflearn.
  • Previous experience working with DAD, NACRS, HMDB or other large healthcare data would be an asset.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
