TITLE:
Education Assistant (EarlyON & Sign Language Services)


POSITION STATUS:
Full-Time - Temporary (8 weeks - Canada Summer Jobs) (Non-Union)


SCHEDULE: 35 hours per week (flexibility required)


REPORTS TO:
EarlyON and SLS Coordinators

***: The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a multi-purpose, multi-program facility that functions as a community centre for the Deaf and as a non-profit charitable provider of services for the Deaf. The organization exists to provide care and opportunities in a communication-rich environment that enhances the quality of life of those we serve.

The Education Assistant will work within 2 programs under the Education division.

The morning will be spent at the EarlyON Child and Family Centre, welcoming new families to the program and assisting them with developing relationships with staff and other families.

The development of child related activities (age birth to 6 years) is also included.

The afternoon will be spent aiding the Coordinator of Sign Language Services in all aspects of running the department's summer programming.


PRIMARY DUTIES
EarlyON

  • Assists with organizing ageappropriate activities for children, including assisting with completion of program plans as well as the organization and presentation of story and song time
  • Ensures classrooms are cleaned and set up daily, including sanitizing of toys and equipment
  • Ensures healthy snacks are available for programs
  • Be positive role model for parentchild interactions and guide caregivers on safety, discipline and wellbeing matters
Sign Language Services

  • Interacts with hearing students participating in ASL classes and activities
  • Assists with material revisions, lesson planning, set up and monitoring of Zoom classes and inperson courses
  • Develops and implements potential fundraising activities
  • Assists with set up of ASL camp related activities, events and housekeeping duties (held in Parry Sound for 1 week in August)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language is required
  • Good English skills (reading and writing)
  • Experience working with children and families (esp. children with hearing loss)
  • Experience in office administration and good computer skills (including Word, Excel, and social media)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work with community partners
  • French/LSQ an asset
Canada Summer Jobs Requirements

  • Must be within 15 to 30 years of age (as per Canada Summer Jobs requirements)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Must be able to commit to full 8 weeks at 35 hours per week
