Job description
Position Purpose & Summary
The Inclusive Excellence Associate (the "Associate") will work under the supervision of the Inclusive Excellence Assistant Director, on several key initiatives to foster a culture of inclusivity through intentional and relational leadership and collaboration. The Associate works on employee systems, policies, and procedures, and assists in planning and executing education and training for academic and administrative departments, as well as students.
Key Areas of Accountability
Strategic Planning & Policy Development
- Review and assist in updating policies that promote accessibility, inclusion, support and responsiveness.
- Support and participate in EDI audits that assess current practices, identify gaps, and recommend improvements.
- Assist in the implementation of EDI initiatives, such as mentoring programs for underrepresented groups or accessibility improvements.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Participate in collecting, analyzing and reporting demographic and organizational data, through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and institutional research.
- Monitor and evaluate progress to inform internal and external requirements
Training & Education
- Design and deliver inclusive excellence workshops to students, faculty, and staff.
- Assist in developing recruitment, onboarding, tenure and promotion materials that integrate inclusive excellence principles for new employees, students, or faculty.
- Provide guidance and coaching for staff, faculty, or leadership on inclusive practices, language, and navigating complex identity-and equity-related issues.
Advisory & Advocacy Functions
- Advocate for systemic change to address institutional bias and barriers.
- Build trust and strengthen relationships with marginalized constituents while serving as a liaison to ensure needs are addressed.
- Serve on or support committees, task forces, and advisory councils.
Community Engagement & Relationship Building
- Foster partnerships with internal and external equity-focused groups.
- Collaborate with partners to coordinate heritage month events, cultural celebrations, and awareness campaigns.
- Organize and facilitate community dialogues to promote mutual understanding, healing, and collaboration.
Conflict Resolution & Inclusive Practices
- Support inclusive conflict resolution by providing restorative approaches to addressing equity-related issues and harm.
- Collaborate with P&C or Student Life on addressing discrimination complaints or equity-related grievances.
- Promote trauma-informed and culturally safe practices across departments.
Administrative, Programmatic, & Logistical Support
- Create and maintain resource libraries with current materials on inclusion, equity, and social justice.
- Support the creation and distribution of EDI communications, including newsletters, social media, reports, and web content.

- Proven efficacy at developing and facilitating training and educational resources and establishing collaborative networks.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and effectively engage with diverse audiences.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods and data analysis tools.
- Demonstrated superior abilities in planning, prioritizing, and problem-solving within an academic setting.
- Ability to design, deliver, and source programming and/or training.
- Excellent at working independently, multi-tasking and effectively managing responsibilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with exemplary ability at maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Ability to interpret and apply university and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Knowledge
- Demonstrated understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion work including a solid foundation in the following: decolonization, anti-racism, accessibility, and unconscious bias.

Standards & Requirements
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field required (ie: Human Resources, Sociology, Education, Business Administration, Law)
Experience
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience working on diversity and inclusion in a work or volunteer environment. This can include equity, diversity, and inclusion work outside of regular job duties. Some training or certification in equity, diversity, and inclusion, or similar or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in Human Resources is an asset.
