Our Thunder Bay location in Ontario, Canada is currently seeking talent to fill the position of Maintenance Planner, Thunder Bay Sawmill.

This job is permanent, full-time.


Maintenance Planner, Thunder Bay Sawmill

As the Maintenance Planner you will join a team of staff, operators and maintenance specialists whom report to the Maintenance Superintendent. You will assist with the
responsibility to provide supervision to maintenance personnel and external maintenance contractors to work in a safe and productive manner to maximize quality and production while minimizing production, maintenance costs and unscheduled downtime.

Your Challenges:


  • Plan and coordinate maintenance activities, schedule manpower, organize shutdowns and other major tasks
  • Maintain liaison between the operations and maintenance departments
  • Your initial role will be key to build and utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for use by operation to process work orders and purchase requisitions, reviewing backlog, weekly schedules, PM's, and updating the equipment database
  • Visit the job site and analyze job in the field
  • Verify the availability of parts, materials and special tools required for execution
  • Estimate the cost of labor and materials for each work order
  • Research information for new work and utilize feedback and history to improve job plans
  • Work closely with Supervisors, operators, and skilled trade groups
  • Arrange materials and services through purchasing personnel and vendors
  • Facilitate weekly and daily planning meetings
  • Provide oncall coverage and availability, supervisor relief as necessary

Your team:


  • Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will be part of a resultsoriented team whose members are encouraged to exceed expectations.

Your profile:


  • Mechanical Engineer Degree / Technologist
  • Practical experience of the manufacturing sector, an asset.

Your assets and skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, to communicate with all levels of the organization and to adapt quickly to change
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills i.e. Autocad, MS Word and Excel
  • Indepth knowledge of MS Office, MS Project and CMMS and solid computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to see the big picture;
  • Knowledge of sawmill and planer mill equipment
