    Position Overview

    Transport of Patients/Supplies

  • Ensures patient is prepared (gown, slippers, etc.) to be transported for tests.
  • Transports patients to and from Diagnostic Imaging from all areas of the hospital.
  • Ensures that all patients are transported by the correct mode of transport (chair, stretcher, etc.)
  • Notifies nursing unit staff when patients are being taken off the unit and returned to the unit.
  • Practices extreme care and caution with patient I.V.'s, tubes, catheters, etc.
  • Conveys patient related information, either verbal or written, to nursing unit and/or diagnostic imaging staff.
  • Makes "priority" decisions for patient transport.
  • Patient Care

  • Responds to all codes and takes direction accordingly
  • Environmental, Supply and Equipment

  • Distributes clean linen to linen cart.
  • Empties soiled linen hampers.
  • Assists with control and custody of equipment in support of scheduled inventory and maintenance requirements and helps to locate missing equipment as necessary.
  • Takes appropriate action for any problems with equipment or supplies, reports safety hazards and noticeable damage to building surface or equipment.
  • Maintains an orderly and tidy working environment.
  • Service Support

  • Assists service staff in the lifting and transferring of patients.
  • Assists in imaging procedures (holding and/or turning patients).
  • Assists/observes patients while technical staff review images obtain reports, etc.
  • Clerical Support

  • Provides clerical functions as required and is thoroughly knowledgeable of all general office routines.
  • Assists in the moving of x-ray files, purging of confidential files, etc.
  • Enters examination data into the computer system.
  • Other

  • Adheres to all safety and health regulations and demonstrates safe work practices.
  • Maintains a knowledge of and adheres to all current policies and procedures.
  • Initiates and/or completes incident and accident reports.
  • Participates in staff development activities as required.
  • Participates in staff meetings as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Experience

  • Experience working in direct patient care area required.
  • Experience in general office procedures.
  • Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent required.
  • "Friends and Family" training required.
  • Non-violent crisis training or equivalent required.
  • Health care aide certificate required.
  • Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Health care aide certificate required.
  • Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficiency in computers and keyboarding required.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills with a patient focused approach required.
  • Must be well organized and capable of working with a minimum of supervision and guidance and demonstrate flexibility and independence in planning work.
  • Ability to perform the position on a regular basis.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Considerable strength and the ability to withstand continuous extensive lifting and moving required.
