COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ASSOCIATE

Engage students, volunteers, and businesses to make a difference in our community


The Community Engagement Associate works closely with Community Engagement Managers to coordinate and facilitate meaningful opportunities that engage youth, corporate partners, and the broader community in the work of United Way Winnipeg and our network of funded agency partners, leading to a greater understanding of issues in the community.

This position will support all aspects of our engagement work, including in-person and virtual activities, the Youth United Council, Speakers Bureau, and Koats for Kids.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Engagement Initiatives, primary aspects of this role include:

  • Supporting the Youth United Council, Koats for Kids and Workplace Engagement activities including:
  • Planning and facilitating a variety of inperson and virtual opportunities; determining project timelines, resources and supports required
  • Scheduling and orienting volunteers
  • Meeting support and follow up
  • Coordinating the purchase of supplies for Pop Up Day of Caring events
  • Coordinating and setting up onsite Living on the Edge poverty simulation workshops
  • Leading the annual Gift-Wrapping Kiosk (including onsite support, managing volunteers, maintaining equipment and supplies, depositing donations, and troubleshooting)
  • Overseeing United Way's online volunteer portal, engagement webpages and inbox

Hours

  • From January to November, this position is primarily during regular working hours (Monday to Friday from 8:30am4:45pm).
  • Throughout the month of December, evening and weekend hours are required to manage a holiday gift wrapping kiosk at a local mall.

You possess energy and enthusiasm, the ability to think broadly and address details, strong communication skills, and a commitment to strengthening our city.


Your education, experience, and skills include:

  • A minimum of two years experience supporting and/or coordinating programs and events
  • Strong time management skills combined with excellent attention to detail and problemsolving abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience delivering virtual and inperson facilitation is an asset
  • Ability to learn and thrive in a dynamic, fastpaced, changing environment and manage several tasks simultaneously
  • Dynamic and outgoing personality combined with the ability to collaborate closely with staff and volunteers
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to take initiative and demonstrate imagination and resourcefulness
  • Proficient with basic technology (Outlook, Word, Excel); familiarity with virtual platforms (Zoom, Teams) is an asset
  • Flexible schedule available to work early mornings, later evenings, and occasional weekends
  • Must possess a valid Drivers' License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 40 lbs
