Position Summary:


Reporting to the Manager, Design & Estimation, the role will be responsible for performing day-to-day design tasks related to construction and Ainsworth service offerings with a close view on safety, productivity, and efficiency.

Creates and reviews distribution designs and technical aspects of construction projects. Ensure the constructability of designs beforehand. Assist in cost estimation efforts for customer quotes, tenders, and bids.

Responsibilities

  • Create or Prepare Electrical Distribution designs of overhead and underground systems for local utility construction projects per applicable standards.
  • Prepare budgetary cost estimates, including labor, material, and equipment.
  • Perform voltage drop calculations, cable pulling calculations, transformer and feeder loading checks, and other analyses as required.
  • Review construction in the field to ensure compliance with designs.
  • Work with third parties to design makeready work and to facilitate the transfer of jointuse attachments.
  • Work with Legal to obtain easements and other access agreements.
  • Field verification of existing site/electrical plant conditions.
  • Prepare cost estimates, bills of material, and work orders.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform all job functions safely and healthily, abiding by by all applicable Health, Safety, and Environmental company policies and government legislation/regulations.
  • Adhere to the Company's Quality System operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualification

  • Completed Electrical Engineering technician 2year diploma.
  • Working experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD 2020 (or later is mandatory)
  • Knowledge or experience in ArcGIS
  • Knowledge of high voltage engineering design and electrical distribution systems concepts
  • Knowledge of Pole loading analysis using Spida Calc or other industry software.
  • Previous engineering design or drafting work experience, will be an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Office such as Excel
  • Ability to communicate with customers, field staff, reporting staff, coworkers, and managers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Shows critical and creative thinking and problemsolving
