Applications are invited for two (2) full time positions of General Maintenance Worker in the Facilities Management Services department, located at the Welland and Daniel J.

Patterson Campus. The salary range is $30.00 /hr to $34.77/hr (Pay Band F) for a 40 hour work week. The hours of work are from 1:00pm to 9:30pm. Additional hours may be required as necessary.


Reporting to the Associate Director, Facilities Management Services, the General Maintenance Worker provides first-line response and performs a broad range of facility maintenance for multiple buildings and their related services.

Adhering to safe work practices with respect to all provincial Occupational Health and Safety regulations and Niagara College Health and Safety policies and practices the incumbent carries out repairs, maintenance, and construction of building electrical, structural, mechanical, and finish systems.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides frontline troubleshooting for all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing needs.
  • Aids in mechanical response by investigating all heating/ventilation and air conditioning concerns, temperature readings, verifying the appropriate operation of all mechanical equipment, and changing filters.
  • Completes installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing fixtures (sinks, toilets, urinals, showers), freeing plugged drains, repairing, and replacing flush valves, repairing sink leaks, and pipe/valve maintenance.
  • Provides general maintenance, installation, and repair of structural and finish elements, flooring systems, drywall, furniture/cabinets, windows and flashing, brick/block walls, concrete curbs and sidewalks, and roofing systems.
  • Inspects and records conditions of life safety equipment (fire extinguishers, AED's).
  • Assists in grounds maintenance, refuse collection, snow clearing, and lawn/garden maintenance.
  • Provides information and assistance to contract maintenance personnel.

Qualifications:


  • One (1) year certificate in Building Environmental Systems or equivalent trade
  • Minimum three (3) years practical experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional maintenance work in areas of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, renovation, and painting
  • Demonstrated problem solving, analytical, and time management skills
  • Proven commitment to customer service excellence
  • A valid class "G" Ontario Driver's license
