  • As an integral member of the therapy team at Bickle, the responsibilities of the Communicative Disorders Assistant include the following: communication therapy, leading group therapy, facilitation of mealtime assistance and dining programs, organising volunteers, supporting setup and take down of endoscopy equipment for swallow assessments, therapeutic feeding as directed by SLP, interaction with patients to train use of methods or devices for social interaction and life skills practice; creation of communication devices and displays; assisting therapists in treatment sessions; educating patients, caregivers, facilitators and others, as needed, including trouble shooting, facilitator strategies and communication tips; collaborating with therapists in the arrangement, setup and programming of equipment and materials; participating and assisting in team meetings, committees related to the service or patients program planning, team building, etc.; supporting and sharing clerical responsibilities with other team members; ensuring compliance with and commitment to patient safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital plans, policies and procedures in order to ensure a safe environment for patients.

Qualifications:


  • Post graduate diploma in Communicative Disorders Assistant or equivalent
  • Teaching or clinical experience with nonspeaking and/or physically disabled persons
  • Skilled & Knowledgeable in programming of speech generating devices (SGDs)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to construct communication displays familiarity with Boardmaker & Microsoft Word software preferred
