Duties
Provide Engineering support for an operational aircraft fleet of fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
• Develop and complete design data, analysis, testing to support new or revised Supplemental Type Certificates and Repair Design Approvals.
• Examples are structural repairs and modifications for metallic and composite structures, for both Transport Category aircraft and light aircraft.
• Installation and approvals of customized equipment and systems for a wide variety of different operational requirements.
• Typical examples include installation of antennas, internal and external structures, interior equipment, interior modifications and upgrades, cockpit upgrades, support for avionics systems and mission systems equipment upgrades.
Work environment
Work in office space on second floor of an aircraft hangar of Aircraft Services HQ located at the Ottawa International Airport (200 Comet Private). There is parking available for employees who report to this worksite. The majority of the work is in the office to support maintenance and operations of aircraft located on site. Work also supports an aircraft fleet flying from bases across Canada.
It is a hands-on team environment with engineers and technologists in different specialties, (structures, interiors, and electrical and avionics systems), which requires regular interaction with technicians on site in line maintenance, structures, avionics, and flight crews. Project assignments range from small which you may take from concept to approval and flight in a short time, to larger team projects integrating multiple mechanical and electrical systems.Intent of the process
The results of this process will initially be used to staff at least one English essential position indeterminately in the Aircraft Services Directorate in Ottawa, ON.
It is possible that a pool of candidates may be established to staff identical or similar positions at Transport Canada Aircraft Services Directorate (200 Comet Private, Ottawa, ON).Positions to be filled: 1
Information you must provide In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
EDUCATION
ED1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in aeronautical engineering, aerospace engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
OC1: Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.
EXPERIENCE
EX1: Significant* experience in the design, development, testing, in-service support or certification of aeronautical products.
EX2: Experience in the identification, evaluation and rectification of in-service airworthiness problems.
EX3: Experience in the design approval of aeronautical products.
EX4: 3 or more years of engineering experience whilst progressively acquiring increased responsibilities related to engineering in the design, development, testing, or certification of Aircraft Structures (AWM 523/525/527/529) or Loads and Structural Dynamics of Aircraft Structures (AWM 523/525/527/529)

ASSET EXPERIENCE
AEX1: Experience in the application of fatigue or damage tolerance analysis methods to aircraft structures.
AEX2: Experience in aircraft interiors certification.
AEX3: Experience in aircraft maintenance and repair.

KNOWLEDGE
K1: Knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR 521) and its implementation.
ABILITIES
A1: Ability to communicate effectively.
A2: Ability to design structural repairs or modifications to aircraft including writing technical reports showing compliance to applicable airworthiness requirements.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Willing and able to travel within North America;
• Willing and able to work overtime on short notice during the week or weekends;
• Working in various positions such as standing, kneeling, lying and sitting on aircraft, as well as crawling in confined spaces.
